Choupette Lagerfeld, fashion’s foremost feline, is dipping a paw into the beauty pool thanks to her dad.
The snow-white furball is the first house pet to front Shu Uemura for its upcoming holiday collection. While the details of the seasonal offerings are under wraps, makeup mavens can expect to see a set of furry false eyelashes with a few choice quotes from the “queen of catnaps” herself.
Karl Lagerfeld has used the makeup to hand color his illustrations for over 20 years. He even shared his love of the brand in 2012 with holiday collection centered on a cartoon he created named Mon Shu. The animated spokesmodel sported red eyes, a classic bob, and a wardrobe to rival the Kaiser himself.
Lagerfeld’s love for his fur baby is clear as he stepped behind the camera to shoot the upcoming campaign himself. Choupette came courtesy of model Baptiste Giabiconi who asked the designer to cat-sit for him but Lagerfeld refused to give the kitty back. “I thought she was too cute. She is like a kept woman. She has a strong personality. She has lunch and dinner with me on the table, with her own food,” he said in a 2012 interview. “She even knows how to use an iPad.” Snagging her own makeup collection seemed like a matter of time since cat-eyes are a classic and the popular pussycat received her own Twitter handle that boasts 37,00 followers.
