My mother came to visit me in New York City last weekend. Whenever she comes to town, I know that I will get my cultural fill with trips to museums and fancy department stores. This time was no different. After walking through Central Park, we decided to escape the rain at Saks Fifth Avenue. Once inside, we made a beeline for the shoe salon on the ninth floor after seeing the Christian Louboutin nail polish displays in the store windows.
As we walked up to the #BeauteLouboutin counter, a woman—who we later found out was the assistant manager—was restocking the polish. I may have run over, frantic that I wouldn’t be able to fondle the polish in person. She understood my urgency, telling my mother and I that they had sold out and had to call actual Louboutin boutiques to re-up their inventory.
As she unboxed two polishes for us, she explained that the bottle’s cap is modeled after the heel of the Ballerina Ultima, the highest Louboutin heel in existence. The idea of the calligraphy-inspired cap is that women will take a moment to pamper themselves with a brush that inhibits bubbles and deposit a rich dose of the iconic red the designer has become known for.
“Oh,” she said as she handed over our coveted polishes, “the bottle is to be displayed and admired.”
