The eve of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was a big day for IMG Fashion. In addition to their efforts of producing the Style Awards with Penske Media Corporation and SWW Creative, the company’s clients were some of the hottest attendees.
Kate Upton stunned the crowd as she walked the red carpet with her mother. “She won’t come up [on stage,]” Vanity Fair’s Centennial issue cover girl told the crowd of bold names as she accepted the award for Model of the Year from Christie Brinkley.
“It seems like the whole world is raving about Kate Upton, and boy, has she ever set the fashion world on fire,” Brinkley told the room of fashion’s favorite’s insiders and designers like Timo Weiland, Public School, Andre Leon Talley, Joe Zee, Victor Cruz, Maria Sharapova, Chanel Iman, while Patrick McMullan snapped away. “She represents the idea that you should embrace who you are. Curves, included. I love what Michael Kors said. ‘There is a person who is enjoying life. It harps back to the ‘70s when we first had models like Patti Hansen and Christie Brinkley—they were sexy, they were also athletic,’ and I think Kate is very much that.”
“I’m going to hurry up and accept this award before they take it away,” the Model of the Year laughed on stage. “I really want to thank Christie Brinkley for presenting me with this award, especially because she’s a part of the Sports Illustrated family.”
Plus, we have a little secret to tell you: Catherine Bennett, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of IMG Fashion Events and Properties, told Glam that IMG just signed Brinkley (who also represents Upton). So SI isn’t the only thing the two models have in common! “Did you see her up there–she’s incredible!” Bennett said of Brinkley. “We’re really proud to have her [as] a part of the family.” She thinks just as highly of Upton. “She’s great, she has such an incredible energy that everyone recognizes. She’s herself.”
