When I was growing up, I was told that I’d have to work twice as hard at whatever my passions were because I was a girl. It not only pushed me to work harder to achieve my dreams, but also taught me that barriers were meant to be broken.
It’s also the same philosophy CoverGirl has ascribed to for years. Their latest effort to pump up the girl power lead to a pairing between the beauty brand and renowned journalist Soledad O’Brien as well as her production company and the Soledad O’Brien and Brad Raymond Starfish Foundation. They’re working together to tell the stories of the biggest challenges young women face in pursuit of higher education. The series will not only follow the lives of several young women but also those who have achieved their own success through the foundation, focusing on how the create change and empower themselves to face challenges head on.
The beauty brand lent a hand by calling upon its roster of CoverGirls, including Katy Perry, Pink, Sofia Vergara, Queen Latifah, Janelle Monae, and more to kick off the #GirlsCan movement with a motivational video to turn those “can’ts” into “cans” by opening up a dialogue about what boundaries girls break in order to help other do the same through mentoring programs, scholarships, and more educational opportunities through O’Brien’s foundation.
Don’t be afraid to speak your mind! Join the conversation with the hashtag #GirlsCan and share what barriers you’ve broken; you never know who you may help.
