I’m a sucker for pretty, shiny, sparkly things, but after perusing Crystal Renn’s jewelry spread in French Vogue‘s October issue, I feel like I’ve brushed up on a few beauty rules. The model sports sparkling jewelry from the likes of Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpel, and Repossi while she primps and preens in the pages, and showcases a few rules we need to keep in mind:
Become a Curl Girl – Regardless of whether you stick to mascara or throw in a set of faux lashes in the mix, a quick crimp from the curler can instantly open up your eyes and make it much easier to layer on as many coats as you need for your look. Even Val Garland agrees!
Wash Away the Day – After seeing what happens when you don’t take your makeup off for a month, we’re still scared straight. Before you get you shut eye, you need to take the day (and the makeup) off of your face so the skin has the chance to breathe and repair itself.
Check Up From the Neck Up – One of the easiest ways to muck up a great makeup look is to stop at the jawline. Foundation, powder, and (if necessary) contour should be applied down the neck to the décolleté to maintain an even tone and keep the face looking flawless.
Put a Spin on the Classics – A smoky eye and a red lip are always go-to looks that work regardless of the occasion, but can get a bit stale. Spice up a smoky eye with a dash of white liner at the outer corner of the eye. Or in lieu of a nude lip, try a pale pink instead. Remember it’s all about play!
