Molly Sims: The Front Row Favorite

By  August 10, 2013

Being a modern mom requires flexibility. Access to a top-tier trainer, a comfortably chic wardrobe, and décor that brings the Hamptons home makes the balancing act a bit more bearable. Plus, when you’ve got a friend like Rachel Zoe on speed dial, prepping for Fashion Week is as easy and breezy as can be.

6:30 a.m.

On top of all of the joys of becoming a mom, I realized I could say bye-bye-bye to an alarm clock! I wake up to the sound of my son Brooks calling for me on a daily basis – way better than those annoying iPhone alarm sounds. I head for his room, and he's happily bouncing up and down in his crib. My day has officially begun!

7:00 a.m.

I immediately throw on my crazy-soft Wildfox sweats and my James Perse tee and then go to the kitchen for family breakfast time! Brooks has some Greek yogurt with sliced cherries and grapes, with a little vanilla granola and almond milk. Scott and I dig in on our breakfast of champions; oatmeal for him, and fiber crackers with cottage cheese for me, along with some much-needed coffee.

8:00 a.m.

Brooks and I spent the last weeks of summer on the East Coast in the Hamptons, enjoying more than a few lobster rolls, fresh produce from farmers' markets, and lazy beach days. I'm still scrolling through all the pictures I took, picking out the best to share on Instagram because they're too good not to continue to upload.

9:00 a.m.

Brooks and I take off for his room, where he plays with his trucks while I pick out his clothes. It's always 10 times harder to choose clothes for him than it is for me. He's troublesome because my little man looks good in EVERYTHING. Devilishly handsome, just like his father.

9:30 a.m.

Now that were back at home in Los Angeles, its back into day-to-day life. Love, love, love the summer, but I'm excited to wear some of the fun fall finds I picked up over the past few months, especially my new fur vest from Calypso St. Barths.

10:00 a.m.

Scott takes Brooks into their man cave; I throw on my Beyond Yoga pants and Lululemon top and hop in the car to meet my trainer, Tracy Anderson. Theres nothing like a morning workout – even on the days when it's the last thing I feel like doing, I always feel better after Tracy puts me through her rigorous exercises.

11:30 a.m.

I leave Tracy's studio and see a text from my good friend Emese. She got married last July in New York, and I was her maid of honor! Pictures from the wedding are in, and it's time to pick favorites. Since it's so nice out, we decide to sit at Urth Cafe in L.A. and have lunch while clicking through all the BE-yond gorgeous photos from her big day. But before we say goodbye, I get a banana smoothie to go for my little Brooks.

1:00 p.m.

I'm back at home, and while Brooks is sleeping, I quickly shower, pull my hair up in a high ponytail, throw on some boyfriend jeans from Joe's Jeans, my T by Alexander Wang tank top, my Stella McCartney boyfriend jacket, an Isabel Marant belt, and slip into my Jenni Kayne suede fuchsia flats. Add a swipe of pink lipstick and I'm ready to go. (Now that I'm a mama, it's all about fashion AND comfort.) Perfect timing – Brooks is waking up from his nap!

1:30 p.m.

With Fashion Week coming up, I'm prepping to see a few big shows. Love, love, love my girl Diane von Furstenberg, so attending her show is no question. While I'm in New York, I'll need to hit up John McDonald's Lure – it's a must-visit for me and Scott when we're in town.

2:00 p.m.

With a green juice from Pressed Juicery and Brooks' banana smoothie in hand, Brooks and I are out the door and off to Rachel Zoe's studio. I'm OB-sessed with the outfits she creates for me, and I know that my girl's got some major finds for me to wear in New York for parties and shows. She always helps transform me from Brooks' mama to Molly Sims.

4:00 p.m.

To pull a line from Rachel, I just about died over all the gorgeous looks she showed me! I'm not gonna dish on the specifics, but lets just say, I can't wait to hit the tents. There's something about New York and Fashion Week that is so inspiring and exciting.

4:45 p.m.

I get a text from a friend who reminds me to add the Butcher's Daughter to my NYC list. Sparse walls, fresh pressed juices – what's not to love!?

5:00 p.m.

Brooks and I pull into the driveway and make it into the house to see large boxes awaiting our arrival. I found this AH-mazing home store while I was in the Hamptons where I may have gone a little shopping happy. I snagged a few beach-appropriate lamps and home accents for our place in the Hamptons but love, love, loved the store Clic so much that I shipped a few finds back home to L.A.

6:00 p.m.

Scott's in the kitchen whipping up some de-licious sangria. A few of our friends are coming over for drinks and snacks. It's so hard to get everyone together during the summer 'cause schedules are super packed, but as August winds down, I can't wait to hear about fun travel stories and see pictures.

6:30 p.m.

I take Brooks into his room to get him ready for bed. We're on a book kick now, reading The Little Blue Truck over and over and over again. I can't believe how fast he's growing, and I make a mental note to update his baby book with today's highlights.  Once he is sleeping, I have time to change into my Maria Cornejo black-and-white ombré dress, before our friends arrive.

7:00 p.m.

One by one our friends show up, and we take the little group out to the deck to keep the noise down for Brooks. I grab the baby monitor as I walk out the door, but I know my baby's turning into a toddler and is going to sleep soundly.

10:00 p.m.

One more glance through my emails, and then I'm curled up next to my husband in bed, reading sides for an audition when I'm in New York! Must, must, must partner work with play in life.

10:30 p.m.

Lights out. Tomorrow is another busy day!
