Golden Globes 2014: Lupita Nyong’o Modern Close Crop and Sheer Mani

By  January 17, 2014

This fashion newcomer had us anticipating a Golden Globes red carpet home run, and she definitely knocked it out of the park. She looked radiant in a sleek Ralph Lauren gown, Fred Leighton jewels, and a refined beauty look. Lupita’s close-cropped coif, styled by Larry Sims, and her iridescent manicure complemented the clean lines of her gown.

Hair: Sims began styling Lupita’s look by applying a curl-activating mist to refresh and reactivate her natural curls. Next, he used a rattail comb to insert a dramatic deep side part on the right side of her head. He then took the part back to the crown of Lupita’s head and combed her hair to each side. Once the part was in place, Sims used a curl cream to hydrate the actress’ hair and give it an easy, moldable texture. Last, he sprayed some hair spray to finish and hold the style in place.

Nails: For an understated and sophisticated manicure, the young actress called on Deborah Lippmann to work her mani magic. First, Lippmann exfoliated hands and then rehydrated nail beds with cuticle oil. She then applied a rich hand cream, nourishing cuticle lotion, and cuticle oil over the entire hand. For the color, Lippmann applied a layer of gel base coat and then applied one coat of a sheer beige lacquer. She used a sheer shimmery polish as the second coat to leave an iridescent finish, and she finished the look with a swipe of gel topcoat.
