Diamond Duos: Stylish and Tasty Wine Pairings

By  September 08, 2010

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. And that’s why we’re absolutely obsessed with Francis Ford Coppola’s Diamond Collection. Each of the ten tempting wine varietals boast a beautiful jewel-colored label making them the perfect accessory for every ensemble and any meal. Here are a few delicious ideas for a few fabulous pairing courtesy of head winemaker Corey Beck. (We’ll leave the matching wardrobe picks to you!)

Gold Label Chardonnay
This wine pairs perfectly with Cajun Style Gumbo.  Diamond Chardonnay provides just enough body to compliment the chicken and sausage with a crisp acidity to help offset the spices.

Red Label Zinfandel
This wine is a great match for Memphis-style Ribs.  The spices and texture of the ribs pair perfectly with Zinfandel.

Black Label Claret
This wine is best paired with Braised Lamb. The Bordeaux varietals in Claret pair nicely with lamb, and the finesse of this wine provides enough balance as to not overpower the lamb.  The wine also has enough weight and structure to compliment the lamb.

Silver Label Pinot Noir
This wine is the ideal match for Paella Valencia, Francis Ford Coppola Winemaker Corey Beck’s favorite dish in the world. Valencia is where paella originated — the dish is made with rabbit and chicken. If you’re not a rabbit fan, a great substitute is Sausage.  Pinot Noir goes great great with this because it provides a nice balance with the meat in the dish as well as the seafood!
