THE PLACE: The Wilshire May Company Building
THE DEETS: Diane von Furstenberg was in all her glory as she pranced around the exhibition honoring her journey. The designer and CFDA president brought together the perfect mix of style setters from the worlds of fashion and film in the midst of a jam-packed awards weekend. It all started with the wrap dress and so to celebrate it’s 40th anniversary, famous fans from each decade arrived in the iconic silhouette.
Demi Moore, Rosario Dawson and Gwyneth Paltrow took a page from American Hustle and opted for sexy wrap jumpsuits, while Coco Rocha, Paris Hilton, Abbie Cornish, and Molly Sims went with more traditional styles. Even Anna Wintour paid homage to the designer in a printed shift. Seth Meyers once told us, “I have never worn a wrap dress. I’ve worn dresses a few times in sketches, but have never worn something as classy as the wrap dress.” The comedian tried to sneak a glass of wine into the portrait gallery, where several depictions of the designer lined the walls, but even he wasn’t allowed to mix cocktails with Chuck Close portraits. Neither were fellow designers Monique Lhuillier or Christian Louboutin who checked out the multiple Warhols that lined the space. Von Furstenberg shuffled between the exhibition and the adjacent Studio 54-inspired lounge where she danced with her family. “I was 26 when I created the wrap dress,” she said. “I had no idea it would become such a phenomenon.”
