DIY: Kiwi Cleanser

By  August 18, 2009

More and more often, we’re finding ourselves draw towards organic, natural, and eco-friendly beauty products. What’s not to like about using fewer harmful chemicals? There are plenty of products we can pick out at the store, but we also like trying our hand at DIY beauty from time to time. Lately, we’re itching to try out a kiwi recipe, since the delicious green fruit contains actinidin, an enzyme that’ll help dissolve dead skin cells and dirt. Be careful, though, it’s an allergen, so it’s not for everyone!

SpaIndex.com has this great Kiwi Facial Cleanser, but we’re sure there are plenty more online—or you could just use pureed kiwi on its own as an exfoliant.

1 kiwi fruit

2 tablespoons plain yogurt

1 tablespoon orange water

1 tablespoon apricot or almond oil

1 tablespoon honey

1 teaspoon finely ground almonds

2 drops orange essential oil

Puree the kiwi fruit in a food processor until liquid, and add in the yogurt, orange water, almond/apricot oil, and ground almonds. Process until thick and cream like. Add essential oil and stir to mix. This recipe makes enough for one application.

Massage gently onto skin, then rinse well.
