We all have those moments where we wish our Fairy Godmother would appear to wave her magic wand to make us beautiful. But Dove put the idea to the test to find that beauty is not only in the eye of the beholder, but inside of all of us.
The brand’s newest short film, Dove: Patches, follows the lives of 5 women who participated in a social experiment helmed by a psychologist, Dr. Ann Kearney-Cooke. Each received the RB-X Patch, designed to make women feel more beautiful, and kept a video diary to track how the patch worked throughout the two-week trial. By the end of the trial period, many had found their own ways to express their confidence in their beauty whether it was smiling at strangers or going dress shopping. But when the group reported back to Dr. Kearney-Cooke, they found that the patch contained nothing, and that the power was within them the whole time!
Dove found that 80% of women feel anxious about the way they look. While we do have our reservations about the clip itself, we understand that the brand sought a way to encourage women to embrace their own sense of beauty and use it as a source of confidence by joining the conversation with #BeautyIs. “When a woman feels beautiful, she radiates happiness and confidence, which inspires her life in a significant way,” said Dr. Kearney-Cooke. “These women, like so many others, struggle to recognize their own beauty and it severely affects their daily lives.”
