Structured skirts and carefully built bodices ruled the red carpet at the 2014 Elle Style and Brit Awards, both which took place in London on February 18th and February 19th respectively. The draped dresses were a romantic and unique addition to the celebrity style scene which has mostly been overwhelmed with sheer paneling, bodycon, and crop tops as of late. Here are some of the ladies whose looks we loved most!

Katy Perry was a vision of floral perfection in a draped and constructed asymmetrical wiggle dress from the Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Capsule Collection. Like a modern day Betty Boop, the “Roar” artist completed her bust boosting silk sheath with a curly cropped ‘do and lively lashes.

Also wearing Vivienne Westwood, Ellie Goulding stole the show the following evening at the Brits, wearing a princess pink ball gown with a wrapped and folded strapless top. The methodically designed bodice paired nicely in contrast with the flowing and feminine skirt on the bottom. We especially love that her fresh makeup and casual side braid toned down her elegant attire in an effortless chic manner.

As for the ladies in black, both Emma Watson and Kylie Minogue found a way to make their LBDs anything but ordinary. Watson’s Giambattista Valli beaded mini featured a knotted taffeta skirt with molded hips that brought our attention to the detailed draping. Minogue also showed off a structured touch with an oversized bow on her leather cocktail dress by William Wilde.

While draped dresses with a structured rather than fluid aesthetic may take some getting used to, we’re loving them as an alternative to the standard silhouettes we’ve been seeing. They offer intricate detailing, not from embellishment and embroidery, but instead from careful construction which is sure to turn heads. Will you be wearing the style this season?
