Something special happens when a woman finds the perfect red lipstick. It’s like slipping into your always-appropriate LBD or settling on a classic, works-with-any-outfit pump. For me, a red lip is an instant amplifier, all things sass, and all things Beyoncé. What can I say? Girls—myself included—love her.

Now, imagine if you found a signature scarlet or bodacious berry hue that perfectly complemented your complexion, while powering the growth of a local, women-run co-op? I did, with MAKE Matte Lipstick in Scarlet. The cosmetics company, which runs under the socially-conscious We See Beauty marketplace, donates one-third of its sales—not profits—from every single product to the We See Beauty Foundation, which, in turn, creates sustainable products for the home and the body, supports female entrepreneurship, and builds sustainable communities.

On a more superficial level, MAKE’s matte lippies are highly-pigmented and come in the sleekest of sleek packaging—minimalist maven approved. Color intensity is the brand’s number-one rule, and it really practices what it preaches, which makes me feel less guilty about swapping out my ubiquitous Ruby Woo. Plus, the collection is paraben- and preservative-free. Need I say more?!
