Emmy’s 2013: Get Kate Mara’s Magnificent Mod Beauty

By  September 23, 2013

Not only did Kate Mara knock our socks of with her dress choice for the Emmy Awards, but she really wow-ed us by completing the look with flawless hair, makeup and nails. This home run look is fresh, demure and undeniably chic — so, naturally, we needed to find out how we can recreate it head-to-toe (unfortunately, minus the J. Mendel gown).

KATE-MARA-EMMY-BEAUTYThe Hair: After applying a generous amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Mega Firm Hold Gel to Kate’s hair, Alex Polillo created a deep side part for added drama. Using a Mason Pearson flat brush and a blow dryer on a medium setting, she dried hair flat to the actress’ head. Polillo sprayed Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray from the roots to the length to set the style, and made sure the look stayed sleek and modern by using a flatiron to smooth the ends. She finished the look with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extreme Smooth Combing Crème.

The Makeup: To prep Kate’s skin, celebrity makeup artist Coleen Campbell-Olwell applied Orlane Elixir Royal and then Super-Moisturizing Light Cream to hold makeup in place. Then, she applied the Crème Royale Yeux to Kate’s eyes. To compliment her white J. Mendel gown, they decided on a bronzy, gold look on the eyes and an overall warm tone. Campbell-Olwell brushed a gold shadow along her lids and a bronze on the outside to create a cat-eye shape. The insides of her eyes were lined with a bronze eye pencil. Orlane Volume Care Mascara was added to leave lashes with a lacquered, intense look to add to the actress’ edgy look. The Highlighter Care Brush was used to highlight both the inner corners of her eyes and cheekbones. Kate’s brows were defined using the Dior Brow Styler in Universal Brown. To add dimension, Campbell-Olwell used a big fluffy brush to apply Orlane bronzer underneath the cheekbones. The look was finished with a light dusting of Orlane’s Transparent Loose Powder.

The Nails: The two-tone chevron look that Kate rocked at the Emmy’s was created using Red Carpet Manicure’s LED at-home gel polish system. Celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees used “Dripping in Luxury” and “White Hot” on Kate, and actually created 15 different looks in silver and white variations. Kate settled on the chevron nail look that used negative space to mirror the design on the top of her lace and toile dress.
