Star Scoop: Jamie Foxx Steps into the Ring, Ellen Pompeo Moves Back, Boot Camp by Beyonce

By  August 01, 2014

TKO: Jamie Foxx is ready to take on his next biographical feat, this time as former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. The Terence Winter-penned film (as in Boardwalk Empire’s Winter), will be the third project, and first feature, based on the fighter’s life. If it’s anything like his one-man show, it will likely capture his upbringing in one of Brooklyn’s most dangerous neighborhoods, past legal issues, and most-iconic bouts. [Vulture]

Her hit show Grey’s Anatomy may be nearing its 11th season, but veteran TV star Ellen Pompeo is ready to go behind-the-scenes. She signed on as the executive producer for the small-screen adaptation of Debt for ABC Family. The series will follow a twenty-something New Yorker, Lillian, who “explores how everyone she knows — even her tutee’s billionaire father — is in somebody’s debt.” [The Hollywood Reporter]

Wanna be Beyoncé? Her (estranged) dad can teach you how. All you need is $300 and a ticket to Houston, Texas where you can enroll in a “day-long, intensive boot camp” about making it and staying relevant in the entertainment biz. We can pretty much guarantee Bey won’t be sharing this news on her Instagram. [Huffington Post]

Who knew Avril Lavigne’s ring finger was so strong? After being graced with a 14-carat engagement ring from her husband Chad Kroeger, she can now add a 17-carat, one-year anniversary sparkler to her stock. If this is what we have to look forward to after our first year of marriage… [People]

And album of the year goes to… One Direction?! That is, if you’re talking numbers. The British boy band had 2013’s top-selling disc, according to the British Phonographic Institute, with four million units sold worldwide. They join fellow Brit Adele, who earned the rank two years in a row for 21. [BBC]

Here’s one for #FBF: Clifford the Big Red Dog, the movie, will land in theaters on April 8, 2016. The lovable pup, who went from children’s book star to PBS mainstay, will be brought to life once more in a live-action/animation hybrid (in 3D, to boot). [Deadline]

Got a Jonze? HBO Confirms a Guest Spot for Spike Jonze on ‘Girls’

By  August 01, 2014

From Gillian Jacobs’ recurring role and Katie Holmes’ rumored guest spot, to reports that blonde besties Taylor Swift and Cara Delevingne are Brooklyn-bound, Girls is getting a new… guy.

1408_Spike Jonze Girls

Season four of the HBO hit will feature a guest spot from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Spike Jonze, according to TV Line. The website reports that he will play a character named Marcos; though HBO has confirmed the role, the network is remaining silent on additional plot points. Judging from an Instagram upload by Lena Dunham, he’s a big fan of Marnie’s (Allison Williams) music. Jonze’s character is touted as a “special guest” at a “biiig Marnie & Desi concert,” leading us to believe that Jonze’s Girls debut will mark a shift in Marnie’s artistic pursuits. As for Hannah, well, we’re surprised little has come out of her “move” to Iowa… except for this.

Natasha LyonneJason Ritter, Maude Apatow, and Zachary Quinto join Jonze as Girls season four guests. The show is expected to pick back up in January 2015. Since there’s at least five months between—and, because Friday—catch up on its polarizing season three:

#TGIT: Shonda, Ellen, Kerry, and Viola Take Over TV

By  August 01, 2014

Girls running the world may be debatable for those of you who’ve failed to catch up, but as far as Thursdays are concerned, there’s one quartet taking charge.

Shondaland on ABC

With new seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, and the series premiere of How to Get Away with Murder debuting on September 25, Shonda Rhimes’ eponymous production company, and its three leading ladies, are certain to win the ratings wars. Fall’s Thursday night block on ABC will be led by dramatic performances from Grey’s star Ellen PompeoScandal’s Kerry Washington, and Murder’s Viola DavisGrey’s Anatomy saw 8.92 million viewers for its season 10 finale (which bid farewell to Sandra Oh’s Dr. Yang), while Scandal peaked at 10.5 million viewers, up 15 percent from its season two closer. Couple that with showrunner Rhimes’ tenure at ABC and Davis’ critically-acclaimed acting career, and it looks like we’ve got a winner. Or, if you’re ABC, a new hashtag: #TGIT!

The network is making the most of its anticipated Thursday night takeover, and in its latest promo move, dropped video of Rhimes, Pompeo, Washington, and Davis discussing their shows. As expected, Rhimes doesn’t even let her stars know what’s ahead, but it’s just enough to reel us in.

Lorde Lends A Different Kind Of “Glory and Gore” To Mockingjay Soundtrack

By  August 01, 2014

Lorde is taking a trip to Panem!

No, she’s not joining in the fight with Katniss Everdeen; the musical star is set to curate the soundtrack to the widely anticipated film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. The 17-year-old singer will handpick the artists and provide the lead single for the album, which will be released this fall. Given the enormous success of the score for the original Hunger Games film (read: it won a Grammy), this next one has quite the standard to live up to, but it’s clear that Lorde’s the right person for the job.

“I sat down with Lorde on the set of Mockingjay this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film,” director Francis Lawrence said in a statement. If you ask us, the union of two “pure heroines” such as Lorde and Katniss is the best choice Lawrence could’ve made. “I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people,” Lorde said. We’ll bet on that being a supremely pleasant surprise, of course, because there’s no doubt in our minds that her talent is the perfect musical complement to the Hunger Games story. Mockingjay hits theaters November 21, and is sure to be filled with all sorts of “glory and gore.”

Star Scoop: Lorde's Hunger Games, Jamie Foxx Goes To The Ring, Alicia Keys Has Some Good News

By  July 31, 2014

There isn’t much our girl Lorde can’t do, from winning a Grammy to rocking a vampy lip like it’s her job. Now we hear news that she is teaming up with one of the most anticipated blockbusters, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One. The young songstress will not only be curating the soundtrack for the movie, but she will also be writing the first single for the soundtrack album. Looks like we get to listen to Lorde croon to us while we watch Jennifer Lawrence kick butt– all is right with the world. [Glam Inbox]

Jamie Foxx‘s repertoire is certainly a diverse one. We’ve seen him a villain (The Amazing Spiderman 2), a singing bird (Rio), a vengeful freed slave (Django Unchained), and now he is tackling the role of former heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, in an upcoming biopic. Terence Winter, the creator of Boardwalk Empire (yes, your ears perked up?) is set to write the film. We have no doubt that Foxx will take on this role with extreme finesse. [Time]

Another celebrity pregnancy! R&B queen, Alicia Keys, revealed through a sweet Instagram photo that she is pregnant with her second child. Keys and her husband Swizz Beatz are already parents to a son, Egypt, who will turn four in September. Keys looks amazing, of course. Congrats to the growing family! [Huffington Post]

The Into The Woods trailer is here…but sorry, there is no singing. Instead, there’s Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp, and more tackling this original Broadway production with their own Hollywood flair. We think it’s a pretty fair trade-off. [Vulture]

More baby news here. Kelly Rowland, who has recently announced her pregnancy, has revealed that she is having a baby boy! Funnily enough, she didn’t mean to disclose the sex, and accidentally slipped the pronoun “he” before she could catch herself. Don’t worry Kelly! Even though the suspense may be gone, we are thrilled for you! [E! Online]

This week, we learned that a “Fancy” feline and a Brooklyn girl have earned some major on-air cred. Iggy Azalea, MTV’s new House of Style host, will be making her silver screen debut in Fast & Furious 7, while Girls star Allison Williams will put her pipes to use as Peter Pan in NBC’s live musical production this December. We wonder if her dad, Brian Williams, had anything to do with that.

Star Scoop: Interstellar’s Space Jam, Guardians of the Box Office, NSYNC’s New Album?

By  July 30, 2014

140730_Interstellar Movie

We won’t be seeing the Batman v. Superman trailer that Comic-Con fans were treated to over the weekend, but this sneak peek makes up for it. The new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has arrived, and with it, plenty of tear-jerking moments from Matthew McConaugheyAnne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain—though plot details remain few. Visit the film’s official site and enter access code 7201969 (the date Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin stepped foot on the moon) to see the flick’s softer side. [Interstellar Movie]

Just when you thought it would be a relatively quiet summer at the box office, Guardians of the Galaxy is here to shake things up. The Marvel project, which director James Gunn says is more “space opera” than “superhero,” will open in more than 4,000 theaters on August 1 and is projected to make $65 million over the weekend. It’s already set a record for becoming “the top August pre-seller in Fandango history,” good news for the future of the franchise. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Sorry Hilary Duff. You’re comeback has got nothing on this. N’SYNC dropped a new album today!!! Ok—it’s not a new album, rather a compilation of best hits and a few hidden gems. And the boy band’s members didn’t know a thing about it. But it’s N’SYNC, throwback cover art, and all. [Vulture]

Can we have Jon Feltheimer’s job? You may not know the name, but you do know that of the company he runs: Lionsgate. Now, we know his salary, too. The studio revealed that Feltheimer made $63.6 million in the 2014 fiscal year (including stock options), almost five-times what he made in 2013. Imagine, the s h o e s. [Variety]

It’s never too late to capitalize off of a big win, especially if you’re Warner Bros., and said win is your $7.7 billion Harry Potter franchise. The studio rounded up a new squad, known as the Harry Potter Global Franchise Development team, that will oversee a spinoff film series, Universal Studios theme park attractions, and a new Harry Potter-based play. We wonder what Daniel Radcliffe has to say about that. [Businessweek]

Because you need something to get over Hump Day, Justin Bieber v. Orlando Bloom. Round one. [Billboard]

Iggy Azalea Buckles Up for Fast & Furious 7

By  July 30, 2014

Just call it Fast & Fancy.

Iggy Azalea, whose double-platinum “Fancy” is an early contender for song of the summer, landed another role in front of the camera. In addition to taking up post on MTV’s House of Style, the Down Under dame will appear in Fast & Furious 7.

Vin Diesel announced the casting news Tuesday during an interview with SkyrockFM to promote his approaching blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy. When asked if he’d rather dance to Azalea’s “Fancy,” Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” or Jason Derulo’s “Wiggle,” (remember that “Drunk in Love” get down?), Diesel opted for the former.

“I just worked with her two weeks ago,” Diesel said. “I guess you’ll be the first person that knows this—we casted [sic] her in Fast & Furious 7. She has a cameo in Fast & Furious 7.”

Azalea will join a long line of musicians who’ve nabbed Fast & Furious roles, including Ja RuleShad Moss (formerly known as Bow Wow), Rita Ora, and franchise regulars Ludacris and Tyrese. And, to curb all shade, she won’t be responsible for writing her lines.

Fast & Furious 7 will arrive in theaters on August 3, 2015.

Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolence” Music Video Is Here

By  July 30, 2014

Lana Del Rey’s music video for “Ultraviolence” debuted on Noisey, and it involves a wedding dress, a blood red manicure, a man’s fingers and an orange. Random, you might say—and, yes, random it is. The singer wanders through an overgrown wooded path dressed as a bride and carrying flowers as she sings the title track of her latest album. We have to admit, we’re confused about the finger-sucking and the orange. Otherwise, she looks gorgeous (those lips…) and we’re loving the ethereal-yet-totally-haunting vibe of this video. What are your thoughts?
