Taylor Swift has got The Voice

By  September 02, 2014

Taylor Swift, 2014 VMAs

Taylor Swift isn’t done shaking things up.

Just days after her first pop single debuted at number one, Swift has signed up as a celebrity adviser on season seven of The Voice. Unlike mentors Stevie NicksAlicia Keys, Little Big Town, and Gavin Rossdale, who’ve been assigned to teams helmed by Adam LevinePharrellBlake Shelton, and Gwen Stefani, respectively, Swift will be free to float among all teams and offer her advice to all center stage hopefuls, much like Chris Martin did in season six.

The Emmy award-winning show’s September 22 debut falls a month before Swift’s fifth album, 1989, drops in October. Though it’s prime publicity for what’s sure to be Swift’s next multi-platinum affair, her appearance could also boost the NBC flagship’s flagging ratings, which have fallen 25 percent since last year. How do you haters like that?

Baby On Board: Carrie Underwood Announces Pregnancy!

By  September 02, 2014

For many, Labor Day marks the end of beachside bonfires, tropical non voyages, and backyard barbecues. For Carrie Underwood, it was the backdrop for a special delivery.

The 31-year-old Grand Ole Opry inductee announced September 1 that she and husband Mike Fisher of the NHL’s Nashville Predators were expecting their first child.

“In honor of ‘Labor’ Day, Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement,” she shared in an Instagram snapshot with her two pups, dressed in “big brother” and “big sister” tees. “Their parents couldn’t be happier.”

The couple, who reside in Nashville, Temnessee, wed in July 2010 after two years of dating; and, if Underwood’s 2009 cover story with Self magazine comes full circle, this pregnancy is only the first.

“Someday I’d like a family – not a big one, but not a small one either,” she said in the feature. “Two kids is good; three is fine. Four? Somebody’s getting something done, because we ain’t having five!”

By  August 29, 2014

Prince. Madonna. Beyoncé. Cher. They’re just a few of the powerful, mononymous figures of our time. Now, you can add Kendall Jenner to the list. The budding supermodel, with plenty of high-fashion cred to boot, dropped the Jenner from her model comp cards. It’s all part of Jenner’s Kendall’s plan to distance herself from the Kardashian-Jenner reality empire and be taken serious in fashun. Let’s see if it ups her runway count this season. [Glam Chic]

Sales for Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” have increased, And it’s not because of her ass-tastic video. The hike is all thanks to her ass-tastic performance at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. Usher, Beyoncé, and 5 Seconds of Summer also saw considerable sales jumps post-show, but nothing compared to Minaj’s 132% gain. [Billboard]

Britney Spears has had a whirlwind career: from near overnight success with “… Baby One More Time,” to a public breakdown circa 2007, and a redemptive comeback capped off with a $15 million contract to judge The X Factor. Now, with a Las Vegas residency, with potential to gross hundreds of millions, it’s worth the time to take a look at how her billion-dollar empire survived it all. Something tells us it had to do with working… b*tch. [Variety]

Amazon was far ahead of competitors when it announced that it was developing a drone delivery system to meet customer demands—or so it seems. Google is working on a similar program, dubbed Project Wing, that hopes to launch in the near future. It’s been secretly working on the initiative since 2011, and, as expressed in this video, has a prototype the company is willing to stand behind. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Diane Sawyer isn’t the only on-air authority to have signed off this week. Chelsea Clinton, special correspondent for NBC News, is leaving her post to focus on the Clinton Foundation, her pregnancy… and quite possibly, her mother’s suspected 2016 presidential bid. [Politico]

Mother Monster is “the happiest girl in the world.” On a day off from her ARTPOP Ball Tour, Lady Gaga made a surprise performance in Australia with Adam Lambert and Queen. “Tonight I felt alive in a way I have not before,” she continued. “I returned to the Radio GaGa mothership to pay homage to my leaders. It was emotional and wild.” [Billboard]

If you thought Taylor Swift would have trouble transitioning from country to pop, think again. Her new single “Shake It Off,” which she performed at the MTV Video Music Awards, landed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 after just one full week out. Guess her haters heard that loud and clear. [Billboard]

Diane Sawyer is signing off. The broadcast vet stood up from her ABC World News anchor desk for the last time Tuesday night. She’d been the face of the broadcast for the past five years but this isn’t the last we’ll see of her. “On a personal note, as I said I’m not going far,” she said. “Down the hall, up the stairs, and I am not slowing down but gearing up in a new way, already at work on some of the stories that take you into the real lives around us, the ones we rarely get to see.” [ELLE]

We know, and love, Shonda Rhimes as being the force behind shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, but this fall, she’s making her on-camera debut. Rhimes will have a guest spot on episode three of The Mindy Project where she’ll star as herself. Should be easy enough. [TV Line]

Fresh off his Emmys win for directing made-for-TV movie The Normal HeartRyan Murphy is giving us a peek at his more sinister side. Here’s your first look at the cast of American Horror Story: Freak Show. [Huffington Post]

40-Love: Take in the US Open, American Express Style

By  August 28, 2014

Games within sets, sets within matches, and proclamations of “40-love” to round it all out—regular tennis spectators are more than familiar with the sport, but novices may not be as quick to keep up. With the commencement of the 2014 US Open, though, American Express makes sure that all fans, new and old, partake in the spender of tennis whites, hard surfaces, and Grey Goose Honey Deuce cocktails, in style.

American Express, an official sponsor of the bout, is back with its third US Open Fan Experience: a two-story coven, complete with a full-sized tennis court, for cardholders to cool off and immerse themselves in an environment where style, technology, and tennis meet. Before taking in Roger Federer and Serena Williams’s respective round one wins, we hung out at AmEx’s US Open Fan Experience and found five things you should do when gearing up for the Grand Slam.

1. Get a preview of James Murphy’s tennis-data inspired mix. The DJ and LCD Soundsystem front man is working with IBM to turn tennis data from each match into algorithms that will, in turn, yield 400 hours of music. Listen here.

2. Swing that thing. Ever wondered where you rank amongst heavy hitting UTSA pros? Stop by the Swing Analysis station where cutting-edge technology will measure your impact, racquet speed, and spin rate, so you can…

3. Serve it up on the Fan Court. This full-size, kid-friendly court offers tennis sessions for children 10 and under, clinics, and meet-and-greets with pro tennis players like Jack Sock and Monica Puig.

4. Strike a pose with Sloane Stephens. If you can’t catch the 21-year-old phenom on the court, you can pose with her hologram in a card-members only section of the Fan Experience. Or, if you prefer to pose solo…

5. Get candid with the brand-new Ram Cam. Grab a racquet, and have your best tennis pose caught on a 180-degree candid camera.

As a bonus, the AmEx enclave offers a retrospective on stand-out tennis court style; Mophie juice packs and charging stations; a US Open-synced radio; and, for the first time ever, a MyOpen, RFID wristband to capture your entire Fan Experience and deliver it straight to your inbox. Any other day in Queens won’t quite compare.

#TBT: Jimmy Kimmel Stages ‘Friends’ Reunion

By  August 28, 2014

Reunited, and it feel so good! It may not be the Friends movie homecoming we’ve hoped for, but Jimmy Kimmel came pretty darn close to realizing our dream.

Jennifer Aniston stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night and was greeted with Kimmel’s fan-fiction account of a Friends reboot. She jumped into character as Rachel before being joined by sitcom alum Courteney Cox (Monica) and Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) in an exact replica of Monica’s unmistakable kitchen—theme music and all.

Kimmel isn’t the only one serving up some friendly nostalgia. As the show approaches the 20th anniversary of the series premiere, Warner Bros. and Eight O’Clock Coffee are also teaming up to create a functioning replica of Central Perk, complete with free coffee. The pop-up cafe wil greet visitors beginning on September 17 in New York.

Catch the hilarious clip, and as a bonus, Ellen DeGeneres’ turn at rounding up the gang. Because, we’ll be there for you.

Report: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Are Married!

By  August 28, 2014

brad-pitt-angelina-jolie-marriedAfter nine years and six children, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finally tied the knot Saturday in Correns, France.

According to the Associated Press, the couple wed in a small chapel in a private, nondenominational civil ceremony at Provence’s Chateau Miraval. The couple obtained a marriage license from a local California judge who conducted the ceremony. The couple made it a family affair as Jolie walked down the aisle with her eldest sons, Maddox and Pax while Zahara and Vivienne were flower girls and Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers.

Though details about the wedding dress have yet to be released, it was said that the late L’Wren Scott was working with Jolie on the bridal confection. “[Angelina and L'Wren have had] several meetings. Angelina wanted someone who is not so obvious for designing wedding gowns,” Grazia reported in 2012. “She’s been courted by some of the hottest designers on the planet, but having a big name isn’t important to her, she wanted someone she could trust – and she most definitely trusts L’Wren. Of all the people she’s met with, Angelina feels L’Wren is the one who understands her body the most.”

There have been rumors for years as to when Brangelina would make it official, as Pitt said they didn’t want to get married until gay marriage was legal. But it looks like his children’s wishes were finally heard. “We’d actually like to,” he told The Hollywood Reporter, “and it seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out. It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment.”

Congrats to the happy family!

Star Scoop: Donald Glover’s on the Web, PLL’s Dramatic Exit, Zach Galifianakis is Back on TV

By  August 27, 2014

Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, aka… Spider-Man? The Community star-turned-acclaimed rapper is putting his voice to use for Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. He’ll play Miles Morales, who was introduced in the Marvel universe in August 2011 as the black Hispanic successor to Peter Parker’s heroic throne. [USA Today]

We didn’t see this coming! “A” struck again on ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars, this time choosing a main character as her latest victim. Mona Vanderwaal, played by Janel Parrish, was killed off in the season finale, moments before revealing that Alison, “A,” was indeed still alive. Rosewood weeps, but Parrish confirmed via Twitter that she’ll still be on the show… in flashbacks.  [The Hollywood Reporter]

Zach Galifianakis is ready to get back to the funny. The original wolf-packer is headed to FX in a new comedy series where he’ll play “a man who leaves his job in the corporate world to pursue his dreams of becoming a respected clown.” Galifianakis will co-executive produce the series with Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel. [Variety]

When the artist formerly known as Prince—then known as Prince again—gives you advice, you take it. In an interview with The New York Times, André 3000 reveals he wasn’t ready for OutKast’s (widely-criticized) weekend one reunion at Coachella back in April, especially after finding out that Paul McCartney and Prince were in the crowd. A few days, later, he got some wise words from Prince. Lesson learned: stick with the hits! [Vulture]

The Budweiser Made in America festival is just days away, and Glam will be there to cover Kanye West’s headlining set in Philadelphia on Saturday… before he hops on a plane to Los Angeles to perform for the West-coast crowd on Sunday. The bi-coastal festival is the first of its kind, and according to Budweiser brand manager Mike Thompson, if it’s a success, it could mean a longer-running festival in years to come.
