By  July 30, 2014

Just call it Fast & Fancy.

Iggy Azalea, whose double-platinum “Fancy” is an early contender for song of the summer, landed another role in front of the camera. In addition to taking up post on MTV’s House of Style, the Down Under dame will appear in Fast & Furious 7.

Vin Diesel announced the casting news Tuesday during an interview with SkyrockFM to promote his approaching blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy. When asked if he’d rather dance to Azalea’s “Fancy,” Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” or Jason Derulo’s “Wiggle,” (remember that “Drunk in Love” get down?), Diesel opted for the former.

“I just worked with her two weeks ago,” Diesel said. “I guess you’ll be the first person that knows this—we casted [sic] her in Fast & Furious 7. She has a cameo in Fast & Furious 7.”

Azalea will join a long line of musicians who’ve nabbed Fast & Furious roles, including Ja RuleShad Moss (formerly known as Bow Wow), Rita Ora, and franchise regulars Ludacris and Tyrese. And, to curb all shade, she won’t be responsible for writing her lines.

Fast & Furious 7 will arrive in theaters on August 3, 2015.

Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolence” Music Video Is Here

By  July 30, 2014

Lana Del Rey’s music video for “Ultraviolence” debuted on Noisey, and it involves a wedding dress, a blood red manicure, a man’s fingers and an orange. Random, you might say—and, yes, random it is. The singer wanders through an overgrown wooded path dressed as a bride and carrying flowers as she sings the title track of her latest album. We have to admit, we’re confused about the finger-sucking and the orange. Otherwise, she looks gorgeous (those lips…) and we’re loving the ethereal-yet-totally-haunting vibe of this video. What are your thoughts?

Allison Williams Flies to Neverland

By  July 30, 2014

AllisonWilliamsPPLooks like Allison Williams is moving out of Brooklyn and shipping off to Neverland. The Girls star, who plays Marni, has been cast as Peter Pan in NBC’s Peter Pan Live! telecast, which airs December 4. “[Williams] is a major find,” said executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “She will reinvent the iconic role of Peter Pan with her wit, her warmth, her dynamic flying and her wonderful musical abilities. The score will be sung beautifully and introduced to a whole new generation of families.”

This reinvention of sorts follows the success of last year’s live performance of The Sound of Music, which was led by Carrie Underwood. After that production drew an impressive 18.6 million viewers, we’re certain our favorite singing “girl” will live up to those high expectations. Of course, Williams qualifies this role as a “dream come true,” as any twenty-something who grew up watching the cartoon version of the tale might. “And besides,” she added, “what could go wrong in a live television production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?”

Star Scoop: Batman v. Superman Crushes Comic-Con, Missy Elliott is Loaded, Fifty Shades’ Friendly Competition

By  July 29, 2014

The stats are in and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was the most-popular movie at Comic-Con. Research firms Mashwork and Way to Blue told Variety that 73% of emotional reactions to the film deemed it “amazing,” while the film’s first trailer received 248,960 mentions. [Variety]

Missy Elliott is ready for a revival. Her longtime collaborator and friend, Timbaland, told Rolling Stone that she’s already selected a lead single for her upcoming album, her first solo effort since 2005’s The Cookbook. “It’s just a matter of when she wants to do it,” he said. “We got the hollow-tip bullet in the gun. We have the game-changer right there.” Can’t wait to get our freak on. [Huffington Post]

Fifty Shades of Grey is getting some friendly competition. The Jamie Dornan-Dakota Johnson starrer will face off against faith-based love story God’s Not Dead on Valentine’s Day 2015. Though the Fifty book series sold over 100 million copies worldwide, God’s was also commercially successful with $60 million in sales. “Opening the same weekend as Fifty Shades, there’s definitely a David v. Goliath comparison,” said Rik Swartzwelder, who will write, direct, and star in the feature. “They will have more screens, more money, more hype [ed note: and, Beyoncé]. . . but we’re hopeful that we are not alone in our belief that there are others out there who desire more from love–and the movies–than objectification or domination.” [Variety]

Speaking of Fifty, it reigns as the as the most-viewed trailer of 2014 with 36 million YouTube visits… and counting. [The Hollywood Reporter]

With the slew of unscripted series and “reality” shows that VH1 produces, it’s with great cheer—literally—that we report the Viacom network is renewing Hit the Floor for a third season. Now, if we could only get rid of Steebie and his Love & Hip Hop Atlanta crew. [VH1]

With the world’s need for social swag and the media’s need to offer immediacy, what better way to meld the two than with an improv show fueled by live tweets? Comedy Central is doing just that with a six-episode digital series, CC: Social Scene, that will draw inspiration from Twitter posts about “worst breakup lines,” “oddest combos at the BBQ,” “beach hogs,” and more. Beauty Buzz: Buzzcut Season, Fuel the Fight With Treatmint Boxes, Straighten Some Color Into Your Hair

By  July 29, 2014

beautybuzz

We’re always looking out for the newest hair trends, and the next big one may be…no hair? That’s right, buzz cuts may be a major fall and winter trend, as shown by Gisele‘s Balenciaga fall campaign or Olivia Cooke at Comic-Con. While we can’t deny these ladies look fierce, it is certainly not a hairstyle for the weak of heart. [New York Times]

Subscription boxes just got a whole lot more meaningful. Treatmint Box is a subscription box service for men and women battling cancer, and its contents include inspirational note cards, organic beauty and skincare products, nourishing foods, and accessories with uplifting messages. The creator of the box, Kimberly Fink said, “Keeping your mind in a good place is half of the battle, and I think people benefit from visual reminders of their own strength.” It is certainly a beautiful way to show support for cancer treatment. [Huffington Post]

Getting two things done at once always sounds better. According to scientists at University of New Mexico and Los Alamos National Labs, we’ll be able to do exactly that with straighteners that can dye your hair. How crazy? This ion beam technology uses no chemicals and permanently changes hair color by affecting the way light reflects on hair follicles. While the word “permanent” sounds a bit scary for now, we are looking forward to these fascinating straighteners. Ombré, anyone? [Fashion Telegraph]

You might want to toss that loofah you use to scrub yourself clean in the shower. As it turns out, it may not actually get you clean at all. Scientists found that natural loofahs, when not properly washed and dried, can be prime spots for bacteria growth. Yuck! [Huffington Post]

Nicki Minaj may have pushed back the release date for “Anaconda,” but she still has new music to share. After Monday’s leak of her bodacious “Bang Bang” collaboration with high-powered crooners Jessie J and Ariana Grande, the trio have officially released the record on iTunes.

“Bang Bang,” a sassy soundtrack to the bad girls, will be the debut single from Jessie J’s third album, her second to be released in the U.S. Grande will also add the Max Martin-produced song to her discography with a spot on the deluxe edition of My Everything, out August 25. No word on whether Minaj will feature the track on The Pink Print, but rumor has it that the three will perform the modern-day “Lady Marmalade” at the MTV Video Music Awards next month.

One thing we can bet on is that there’s a video on the way.

“We fly to L.A. in about six hours to shoot the video,” Jessie J told Elvis Duran and The Z100 Morning show today. “Honestly, I’m so excited! We shoot the video tomorrow and the next day. Me, Nicki, and Ariana are all available which is rare in itself—no blue screen, no green screen, no screens!”

Listen to “Bang Bang” below and await the badass visuals that will undoubtedly follow.

In other music news… Hilary Duff returned to the recording booth after seven years. Here’s her new, Colbie Caillat-penned single, “Chasing the Sun.”

Winner’s Circle: 2014 Young Hollywood Awards

By  July 29, 2014

Beauty buffs may have a thing for old Hollywood glamour, but Monday night, at Los Angeles’ The Wiltern Theater, Tinseltown’s youngest stars stole the stage. Kelly Osbourne hosted the 2014 Young Hollywood Awards, which honored achievements from pop culture’s emerging acts, as merited by 13—19 year old voters. Orange is the New Black proved the evening’s top victor, earning three awards: Breakthrough Actress Danielle Brooks, the We Love To Hate You award for Pablo Schreiber, and most Bingeworthy TV Show—though we’re not sure it’s a program aimed at teen audiences (*wink).

Lady Gaga Takes a Stab at Acting

By  July 29, 2014

LadyGagaSinCityLady Gaga’s performance hat is always on, as the singer’s sartorial choices and made to project different personas. While the infamous meat dress and iconic egg contraption are, in a lot of ways, two ends of the spectrum, they’re both just sooo Gaga.

But her most recent announcement involves a movie screen and a character that’s not, well, herself. The singer shared via Instagram that she’ll be appearing alongside Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill. Her retro waitress getup is a departure from what we’re used to seeing from her, but we don’t hate it. The best part about all of this is, of course, that there’ll be a number of red carpet opportunities during the movie’s press tour for Lady Gaga to shock us a little more.

Star Scoop: Wonder Woman Revealed, Lea Michele Rides Out, Nicki Minaj Pushes Back

By  July 28, 2014

140728_Gal Gadot Wonder Woman

We know how Henry Cavill suits up, and we’re finally warming up to Ben Affleck in his Batsuit. Today, Warner Bros. is unveiling a third central character in its Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film: Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. We admit this iteration of the DC Comics hero is chicer than we expected. [Forbes]

Sons of Anarchy is going out with a bang… and an unexpected guest star. Glee’s Lea Michele confirmed that she scored a spot on the FX drama’s final season. She’ll play Gertie, “empathetic truck stop waitress and single mother, who connects with Gemma during a difficult time.” We take it she won’t break off into song. [MTV]

The release of “Anaconda” isn’t the only thing Nicki Minaj is pushing back. Before informing fans that The Pink Print single would drop August 4 instead of today, Minaj responded to critics who deemed the its racy album art unacceptable. The shade master uploaded Sports Illustrated images to her account with models in similar bum-baring attire, an answer to the question of industry double standards. Who’s (back)side are you on? [Vulture]

Zoe Saldana is one busy mommy-to-be. While promoting her new film, Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel announced that it has given its sequel the go-ahead for a July 28, 2017 release. Between now, and then, she has two other film franchises to worry about: Avatar, which has three upcoming sequels, and a third Star Trek space saga. [The Verge]

One monkey script leak don’t stop no show. Even though the script for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight leaked earlier this year, the filmmaker declared that the Western will still appear on the silver screen. [Variety]

Tarantino broke that news at a Comic-Con panel for Dynamite Comic’s Django UnchainedZorro crossover comic book. “I loved this idea, not only because I like western comics in general, but I also loved Zorro in all his iterations whether it was the Disney series or the William Witney films,” Tarantino shared. “I thought it was a great idea of taking the most famous, fictional Mexican western hero and putting him together with the newer, famous black western hero.” [Deadline]
