Fashion Institute of Technology Goes Back to the Future

Wednesday night some of the biggest designers in fashion went back to their alma mater to see some of the fresh faces make their debut at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Future of Fashion Show. The graduating class of 2011 worked with the likes of Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein, Narciso Rodriguez, and Nina Garcia, who served as mentors and judges; several students received awards from Cotton, Inc. who sponsored the show.

The best of knitwear, sportswear, special occasion, intimate apparel, and even children’s wear strutted the runway in a kaleidoscope of colors, varied textures, diverse silhouettes and unique details. Highlights included a sand cowl neck dress with bands of open knit work  created by Yaeji Son, a beige dress with white stitching and champagne underskirt with a matching swing jacket by Jinsol Kim, and a black, structured dress with nude cut-outs and stitching by Bokyeong (Juliette) Kim. Raphaela Marra sent a lime green fur trimmed, white ski vest, which was paired with matching shorts and pleather boot covers. A sheer black dress with red, navy and black weave overlay by Burcu Gundogar and a sheer black nightgown with lace cap sleeves and a sage green underwear set with sequin detail and garters by Natalie Quirin caught everyone’s attention as the Critic Award winners. These graduates are sure to make a splash in the next few years with lines of their own. Perhaps a runway show at Lincoln Center is on the horizon.
