Fashion Week Done the American Express Way

By  March 01, 2013

Each season some of our favorite designers set our hearts aflutter as they send their newest creations down the runway. The excitement of seeing that first look hit the catwalk is why we’re in this business, but with an 8-day agenda and a schedule that includes over 150 shows and presentations, it’s a marathon of sorts.  First there is requesting invitations, prepping, planning, securing inspirations and backstage access, RSVP-ing and strategizing, then NYFW officially beings and it’s a marathon of late nights, early mornings, questionable eating habits, and less than stellar exercise maintenance.

American Express took note and this season changed all that will the launch of its Best-in-Class program. Nola and I, along with two of our Glam Network bloggers Lauren Messiah and The Icon Concierge were lucky enough to be invited to join in and experience AmEx’s stellar service. The perks and rewards we were treated to made this season a true pleasure.

Once we hit the middle of Fashion Week, we decided it was time to take a break from our regularly scheduled chaos to indulge. We basically utilized the amenities offered to us by American Express to cull together a full day of shows, life maintenance, and pampering. At 9 am, we met at the Flatiron Flywheel location for a morning spin class, raising our heart rates while sweating out style stress, the few glasses of champers we’d sipped the night before, and the countless Karlie’s Kookies we sustained ourselves on backstage.  Our 45 minute ride without cell phone access did wonders for our state of mind. We left feeling refreshed and recharged.

Loaded up on healthy endorphins, we made our way from Flywheel to Hu Kitchen, to stock up on juices. Why stop the health train now? With our daily dose of fruits and vegetables in hand, we hopped in a cab and zipped up to the Murray Hill Drybar location to get all glammed up before taking in a day of shows at Lincoln Center.

As the masters of blowouts shampoo’d and massaged our heads, Nola and I sipped our juices, finding our bodies were responding with resounding, “Thank yous!” Suddenly all those Kookies, no matter how gluten free, were looking much less tasty. We sank into the hairdressers chairs only to find The Devil Wears Prada playing on our screens, all too perfectly. Before we knew it, our tresses were tamed, full of body and curls, and we were on our way out the door again. We walked outside to find our personal Mercedes-Benz waiting, ready to drive us up to Lincoln Center in style.

Following our morning of indulgence, we were inspired and focused, jumping from show to show while writing reviews on our Samsung Galaxy Note II as opposed to waiting until we got home that night. Since we realized we’d completed our night’s editorial assignments before the evening had even begun, we opted to give American Express concierge a call and make a reservation for a celebratory dinner. Minutes later we had a reservation at BLT Prime, without even having to deal with navigating the hoops of attempting to secure a last minute table in Manhattan!

Workouts, beauty moments, healthy (and not so healthy) meals, a chauffeured car, fashion shows, state of the art tech gadgets, and easy dinner plans, what more could two Glam gals ask for? Thank you American Express!
