Trend Alert: Active Wear Fit For The Runway

By  September 15, 2014

We make it a point to hit the gym before or after the workday, but we tend to keep those two wardrobes separate. But after seeing sneakers and spandex abound on and off the runway at New York Fashion Week, we’re rethinking things.

Athleta was the first to set the scene with a full-on fashion show for just (very stylish) athletic wear. Alexander Wang made a statement with an entire collection modeled after sneakers of all kinds, which made for an overall sporty vibe. Not to mention Under Armour’s latest campaign “I Will What I Want,” which featured Lindsey Vonn, Misty Copeland and, most recently, Gisele Bundchen. Then there was Cynthia Rowley, who introduced real fitness-wear into her ready-to-wear collection. According to the designer, this move just makes sense: “The whole thing is that everybody wears fitness every day. We’re sort of saying it’s from work to workout to go out.”

This fashion-fitness union not only makes our lives so much easier, but it makes our wardrobes significantly more dynamic. Gone are the days of simple suiting, collared blouses with trousers and jeans-and-blazers—instead, designers are prompting us to break things up with a cool neoprene legging, a lightweight windbreaker or flashy sneakers. For Rowley, the inspiration came from her love of sports, specifically surfing. “I love to surf…[I’m] psyched about the fitness stuff. I love that we put the bling and flash into fitness. You can wear it with heels, with a little t-shirt, with a skirt. You can mix it [and wear it] to the gym.”

Whatever trends you’re capitalizing on for Spring 2015, make sure to infuse some fitness into your fashion. Just because you’re planning on hitting the gym later doesn’t mean you need to turn off your style sense. Plus, if you don’t actually get a chance to sweat it out and opt for happy hour instead, well, at least you look the part.

Trend to Try: Trapeze Tops

By  September 15, 2014

A cute cami, your best jeans, and a hot pair of heels works almost every time, but it’s still fun to mix it up when it comes to your usual evening uniform. May we suggest adding a bit of flirty flair to your go-to ensemble up with a trapeze top, a style that was in full swing courtesy of the season collections from Christian Dior and Suno. The fit-and-flare style blouse adds just the right amount of “oomph” to an outfit, leaving a sleek feel on top, but with a bit of pop in an A-line manner from the waist to hips to add a statement factor. Pair with chic skinnies and high heels for an elongated look that plays with the right proportions.

Style Snaps: September 15, 2014

By  September 15, 2014

RosieHWpostEvery day, we bring you celebrity sightings and stylings as seen everywhere from the streets to the red carpet. Whether they’re dolled up or dressed down, we can’t resist the need to know who wore what.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley took it easy this weekend, and took a selfie to document it. The 27-year-old model gave us her best pucker and served up a serious pose from the comfort of her couch. Of course, we’re really into the way she sported a Canadian tuxedo with those oversized sunnies and delicate necklace…and very few closed buttons. Try it if you dare.

Currently Obsessed: Graphic Tees

By  September 15, 2014

Currently-Obsessed--Graphic-Tees-Michelle-PhanSometimes basics are underrated when it comes to our wardrobe. We have plenty of staple denim and tees, but we forget that a fun saying or bold print can bring these pieces to life and make them our favorites. No matter how much I love a fitted dress and heels, at the end of the day it’s those casual, comfy, but still stylish, outfits that make me feel best. That’s why, this month, I’m crushing hard on graphics tees.

A unique graphic tee can really show off your personality. Whether it’s a phrase or mythical animal gracing the front, graphic tees are a fun way to represent your passions, hobbies, or overall sentiments. I’m a huge fan of rocking ones with a ’90s nostalgia feel, because who doesn’t love the shows and style that dominated this era? And shirts with inspirational quotes, not only build me up throughout the day, but also brighten other’s when it rings true for them as well.

No matter how casual you think a tee may be, there are plenty of ways to dress them up. You can layer a blazer over your’s for a professional look, make it fancy with a statement necklace, or throw one over a dress for an edgier, layered twist. The possibilities are endless!

This month, get your fix with some of my favorite graphic tees below.

1. Clueless Whatever Tee 2. Project Social Tee California Tank Top 3. Denija High Tide Waves Tank 4. People Tree Sweet Like Honey Tee

Angel at FW — Cushnie et Ochs Dress

$1,195 never looked so good—especially if it only cost me $30.

It’s no secret that the one show I will attend, without fail, each and every season at New York Fashion Week is Cushnie et Ochs. The brand signals a consistently sexy aesthetic, without crossing the line, and perpetuates a strong, sensual, and sleek point-of-view. If that weren’t enough to win me over, in February, I bonded with designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs backstage after finding out that we have a common muse: Michelle Pfeiffer. We all need a little lady tiger, after all.

So when it came to selecting a wear for their Spring 2015 show, specifically for my front row seat—I know, big deal—there was no room to half step. I’d need to take a full stride and leave my mark. The only problem was I didn’t factor in a $1,000—plus expense to stroke CEO’s ego in a look from the brand. Luckily, there’s an app (and website, and brick-and-mortar store) for that.

RentTheRunway, destination for designer dresses on a fiscally-responsible budget, was my go-to for the perfect front row moment. I rented the brand’s Play It Back dress for only $30, and paired it with B Brian Atwood shoes from my own closet. The result was equal parts sass and chic—and made for my most-liked Instagram post to date. RTR’s Cushnie et Ochs selection doesn’t stop there: the site has a total of 22 items from the dynamic duo, with options to add them to your wardrobe for up to eight days.

Word to the wise: there is no new black (unless we’re talking Netflix, of course). — Angel Lenise

Jean Paul Gaultier Is Done With Ready-to-Wear

By  September 15, 2014

Jean Paul Gaultier is done with women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collections and accessories, and is planning to devote himself to couture, the brand’s perfume business and other projects. The designer’s final RTW collection will be shown at the Grand Rex on September 27 during Paris Fashion Week.

In a letter to Women’s Wear Daily, Gaultier explained that the decision was made in conjunction with Puig (the Spanish fragrance and fashion group that acquired a majority stake in the Gaultier house three years ago) after an assessment on the future of the house. “For some time, I have found true fulfillment in working on the haute couture and it allows me to express my creativity and my taste for research and experimentation. At the same time the world of ready-to-wear has evolved considerably. Commercial constraints, as well as the frenetic pace of collections don’t leave any freedom, nor the necessary time to find fresh ideas and to innovate.”

In addition to couture, the house will focus on fragrances including women’s Classique and La Male for men, which remain the most successful part of Gaultier’s business.
