Don't Worry, Be Yoncé

By  July 22, 2014

Beyonce-ClothesBeyoncé seems to be running our world. With too many awards to count, a number one spot on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list, Beyoncé-themed dance classes, and now even her own voter demographic, no wonder we’re all drunk in love with Bey. Talk about Sasha Fierce! While we all bow down to Mrs. Cater for looking #flawless in her body suits while sharing the stage with hubby Jay Z on their joint On The Run Tour, there’s another way for us (single) ladies to dress like the Queen B and show our love (or obsession) without wearing a leotard in public. Lucky for us, Beyoncé-inspired graphic tees have popped up everywhere after her emoji tees sold out at her shows:

1. Beyoncé Surfboard Emoji Shirt, available at Beyonce.com for $35.00
2. Zodiac Beyonce Virgo Sweatshirt, available at RevolveClothing.com for $99.00
3. I Woke Up Like This Sweatshirt, available at Nastygal.com for $100.00
4. Style Stalker ‘Don’t Worry Be Yoncé’ Muscle Tee, available at South Moon Under for $48.75
5. Drunk In Love Tank, available at Necessaryclothing.com for $15.99
6. Wake Up Like This Tank, available at Necessaryclothing.com for $17.99
7. Flawless Knit Tank, available at Forever21 for $12.90

Blake Lively’s Site is Live!

By  July 22, 2014

Gossip Girl star Blake Lively has been preparing for her new lifestyle brand, Preserve, for years. Little by little, she’s revealed new aspects of the website: her hopes, a launch date, and finally, in Vogue, the name.

Vogue’s August cover girl launched her new venture on Monday—2 days earlier than the original date—with little fanfare. Ryan Reynold’s wife is hoping to use “all the modern-day digital tricks of the trade to shine a light on—to preserve—all those finer, simpler things in American life that are in danger of getting touched-screened into extinction, trampled on by the medium itself,” according to the magazine.

Very interesting, considering that Lively isn’t on social media, and Preserve, though registering accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest plus Instagram, hasn’t posted anything to the sites.

On her site, Lively penned her very first editor’s letter, writing, “I’m more intimidated that I should probably admit. I’m not editor, no artisan, no expert. And certainly no arbiter of what you should buy, wear, or eat.”

She just wants to tell stories. “So here at Preserve there are people, stories, essays, videos and goods which hopefully inspire your home, your style and your tongue,” she continued. “There’s expensive stiff. Inexpensive stuff. And everything in between. But their value, is up to you. We may romanticize it, calling it treasure. What we’re really saying is, we see worth on every level.”

Hopefully, you’ll treasure preserving your time with Lively.

Editor Picks: Sunny Styles on our Wish List

By  July 21, 2014

serengeti-slice

Channeling cool California thrills and oceanside elegance, we’re wishing for cultivated West Coast-esque pieces for our summer apparel this season. We want that laid-back feel with an elevated edge—seashore style with a polished finish.

Each piece on our wish list is an essential for a complete warm-weather wardrobe. The first, a pair of frayed denim shorts, rough around the edges, is a timeless must-have with aesthetic appeal that increases with age. Pair with a sleek oxford shirt tucked in and swank sandals to offset the relaxed look of the shorts. The ideal outfit for a walk on the beach, the ensemble requires just one final touch: the right pair of sunglasses. Serengeti “Serena” sunnies offer a vintage vibe via their classic shape—but also an air of luxury with the fine craftsmanship they display. Made with Ultra-Light glass lenses, photochromic technology that allows the glasses to adapt to changing light conditions, and Spectral Control, which manages colors within the visible light spectrum for stunning, high-definition contrast and hue enhancement, these sunglasses are the ultimate way to view the summer sky. Mix up your look up with another retro-chic pair from Serengeti—the always effortlessly cool “Medium Aviator” frame. Also offering photochromic technology, which constantly lightens and darkens throughout the day to ensure you see every detail of your summer surroundings, these beauties are ultra refined, perfectly timeless, and always chic.

1. Oxford long sleeve shirt, available at UNIQLO for $29.90
2. Serengeti “Serena,” available at Serengetti-eyewear.com for $249.99
3. Serengeti “Medium Aviator,” available at Serengetti-eyewear.com for $229.99
4. XL straw beach tote, available at Henri Bendel for $149

Style Scoop: A Decade of Diane, Bill Cunningham Spills It to Fern Mallis, Kanye West is So GQ

By  July 21, 2014

Diane von Furstenberg’s term as the Council of Fashion Designers of America will continue until 2016. “An additional two years will make it a decade of Diane with the time spent on strengthening the board and organizational development,” CFDA CEO Steven Kolb said. In addition to Diane reigning supreme, the Council added 30 new designers! [Women’s Wear Daily]

Fern Mallis tried for two years to get New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham to agree to a Q/A with her at 92Y in New York City. Cunningham politely declined in a handwritten letter only to end up changing his mind over a glass of white wine. “Poor Bill was horrified and so apoplectic in his apology,” Mallis said of the photographer spilling a glass of wine on her saffron chiffon caftanlike frock she wore to the CFDA Awards. “I told him, ‘It’s OK. It’s clear. It will dry. If it had been red wine, I would have killed you.’” The two will have their sitdown on September 3. [Women’s Wear Daily]

Kanye West is on the August cover of GQ magazine and inside the pages of the glossy, the rapper let it slip that he isn’t always so paparazzi-ready. “I hope we don’t see no paparazzi today,” West said during the interview. “Because I’m still getting acquainted with these jogging pants I threw on. Like, ‘That’s not my statement!” The article is full of statements that are gems reminiscent of Ye were knew and loved (pre-Kardashian). [GQ]

For the fifth season in a row, Daria Werbowy is face of Celine’s Fall 2014 campaign—in addition to staring in ads for Mango, Equipment, AG Jeans. The model looks stunning in a long black coat with white buttons, a pair of oversized tweed trousers and a delectable mustard yellow bag. [Fashionista]

Speaking of fashion advertisements, Edie Campbell, her family, and her horse, Dolly, are staring in Lanvin’s fall ad campaign to celebrate the French fashion house’s 125th anniversary. [The Cut]

Lastly, for a fashionable, full-circle moment, DVF is taking over a main entrance and 12 windows at the Galeries Lafayette flagship on Boulevard Haussman from Septemeber 3 to 30 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her infamous wrap dress. There will be a special event there in late September to coincide with Paris Fashion Week. [Women's Wear Daily]

Take A Walk In Olivia Palermo’s Shoes

By  July 21, 2014

OliviaPalermoAquazurraIt looks like new hubby Johannes Huebl isn’t the only significant man in Olivia Palermo’s life. The ever-stylish model/actress/lifestyle guru is launching into yet another project–this time with Edgardo Osorio of Aquazurra. With shoes as her medium, this one seems like Palermo’s most fitting venture yet. She is collaborating on a capsule collection of six shoe styles for the Florence-based footwear label. Dubbed Aquazzura x Olivia Palermo, the collection will launch globally in September at retailers including Lane Crawford, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tsum, Holt Renfrew and Net-a-porter (which has the online exclusive).

This project comes out of Palermo’s support for the label: “She’s always wearing the shoes,” Osorio said. “We’re friends and we were talking more than a year ago about a small capsule that would be Olivia’s eye and aesthetic but with the Aquazzura style.” And Palermo insists that her over-the-knee boots, bejeweled sandals, gladiators, snakeskin pumps and suede booties will not break the bank. Prices range from $600 to $1,625 because “everything is so expensive these days and you still want to have things that you can find and have quality and the design aesthetic and be happy,” according to Palermo. We’ll give her credit for designing glamorous high-quality shoes, but we beg to differ on the “expensive” factor.Good thing we still have some time to save up for a pair of these babies.

Christophe Lemaire Leaves Hermes

By  July 21, 2014

Christophe-Lemaire-Hermes-Lacoste-Label

Hermès artistic director of womenswear, Christophe Lemaire, is leaving his post after four years to work on his own eponymous label.

“Working for Hermès has been a great pleasure: a profoundly enriching experience on both a human and professional level,” Lemaire said in a statement. “I am proud of what we have built together. My own label is growing in an important way and I now really want and need to dedicate myself to it fully.”

Hermès CEO Axel Dumas said of Lemaire, “I am very grateful to Christophe for the passion with which he has addressed and enriched the expression of our house in women’s ready-to-wear. Under his artistic direction the métier has renewed its aesthetic and produced very satisfactory financial results.”

Before Lemare joined Hermès (replacing John Paul Gaultier), he was the creative director at Lacoste. “When Pierre-Alexis Dumas called me, I was surprised, astonished, at the same time, it seemed so obvious—the spirit of the brand—and we understood each other right away,” said the 45-year-old. “We both had the idea of treating a piece of clothing as an object, but linked to functionality and realism,” the designer said after his appointment.”

His final collection for the French fashion house will be the upcoming Spring-Summer 2015 collection that debuts in October.

Best of luck to him!
