Style Scoop: Models Cruised With Karl, Marc by Marc Jacobs Designers Launch Their Own Line, Yoox Merges With Net-a-Porter

In anticipation of the actual show, Karl Lagerfeld treated his favorite It-models and ladies to a cruise along the Hudson River on Monday night. Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Jamie Bochert, Lily Donaldson, Anna Ewers, Kris Jenner, Katy Perry, Alexa Chung and more boarded the boat for an incredible view of the city…and, obviously documented it on Instagram. Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley are known for their work on Marc by Marc Jacobs, but will soon come to be known for their own venture. As news swirled that the Marc by Marc Jacobs line would  be assimilated into the brand’s main collection, there remained the question of just what would be next for Hillier and Bartley. The duo will debut a women’s ready-to-wear and accessories brand called Hillier Bartley in the fall; sources say the decision to work on their own line was made before it was decided that Marc by Marc Jacobs was going to fold. It’s confirmed: Yoox and Net-a-Porter have inked a deal to merge. The new entity will be called Yoox Net-a-Porter Group, and it will be led by Yoox founder Federico Marchetti. According to Marchetti, “This is a game-changing merger between two pioneering companies that have already radically transformed the marketplace since 2000, and will now shift the industry paradigm once again.” [Women’s Wear Daily]

Rebecca Taylor is getting into the swimwear game with Giejo. Taylor collaborated with Giejo’s creator, Gabby Sabharwal, on a swimwear capsule called Rebecca Taylor X Giejo Swim. The line will be available in May in Taylor’s stores and at rebeccataylor.com. The pieces will be “interchangeable and multifunctional swim pieces that you can customize to your body type,” according to Taylor. [Women’s Wear Daily]

Style Scoop: Gigi Hadid on Adweek, Cara Delvingne’s Lookalike, Net-A-Porter Gets Courted

StyleScoopMar30We’re used to seeing Gigi Hadid in all the major fashion magazines, but this is a new one. The 19-year-old model graces the cover of Adweek’s “Millenial Issue” because of her “social media clout.” Hadid’s social presence has definitely helped her land major contracts. To Leonardo Chavez, Maybelline’s global brand president, her social following was one of the reasons the brand hired her: “[Gigi] is extremely relevant for the millennial consumer, not only because of who she is externally—her beauty, her fashion, her style, her sexiness—but also because she is a girl that has amazing confidence, has amazing drive and is willing to share that with women through social channels.” [Adweek via Fashionista]

Cara Delevingne has a bushy-browed lookalike. Fourteen-year-old Olivia Herdt is attracting a lot of attention (she hasn’t caught Cara’s yet) on Instagram after posting a photo on her page that features half of her own face beside half of the supermodel’s face. It was reported last week that Amazon was in talks to buy e-commerce giant Net-a-Porter, but now it looks like Yoox is swooping in. Compagnie Financiere Richemont confirmed that discussions are underway “regarding a potential business combination between Yoox and The Net-A-Porter Group Ltd.” [Women’s Wear Daily]

Rent the Runway will open its fourth retail store on April 30 in Chicago. Located at 710 North Wabash Avenue in the Gold Coast neighborhood, the boutique will feature more than 300 designers, and dressing rooms will be decked out with selfie mirrors and iPad minis to aid in the selection process. The store will rent everything from dresses, separates and outerwear to jewelry, handbags and sunglasses. Customers will be able to book individual styling sessions for $25 for a one-on-one experience.  [Women’s Wear Daily]

Nicole Richie will host the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Future of Fashion runway show on Thursday, April 30 in New York. The style icon and creative director will MC the highly-anticipated show that features standout designs from FIT’s most promising students. When we think shearling, we think that dude hanging around outside the fashion shows in Milan with his turtleneck and teddy bear collared leather jacket. And just the thought of it is enough to make us all warm and fuzzy inside, despite the freezing temperatures that just won’t seem to go away. Style Scoop: Kanye Saves Karmaloop, Kate Middleton’s Pink Coat Reappears, Stuart Weitzman’s Sandals Do Good

The 15-year-old streetwear retailer was forced to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday, but West and entrepreneur Damon Dash stepped in at just the right time. The duo posted a series of Instagram videos on Dash’s account on Thursday announcing that the deal was done, and they had bought the site. Dash tagged publications including WWD, Vogue, The New York Times and Vanity Fair, indicating that they might have their sights set on transforming the retailer into more of a high-fashion player. Kate Middleton finished out her round of public engagements on Friday before she begins maternity leave. The Duchess, who is due to give birth to her second child in April, joined the Duke of Cambridge for a tour of Stephen Lawrence Center, a London facility that helps disadvantaged youths. You’re buying spring sandals, right? Well, this year Stuart Weitzman is giving you an opportunity to benefit a good cause while you do just that. The brand released a capsule collection of shoes whose proceeds will go toward the Folkman Institute at Boston Children’s Hospital’s groundbreaking cancer research. Cynthia Vincent is getting techy with the help of Best Buy. The designer’s will debut a line of tech accessories featuring cases for tables, smartphones and laptops designed with prints sourced from her archives. The hope for Best Buy is that the collection drives more female customers into Best Buy stores. The designs launch on BestBuy.com on Sunday and will roll out to stores on April 12. The actress-turned-shoe-designer will host Zappos Couture’s first pop-up at The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas on Friday, April 16th through Saturday, April 17th. Style Scoop: Kendall Jenner Is A #MyCalvins Girl, Tom Ford Does Film, Anya Hindmarch Goes Sticker Crazy

Because, at the end of the day, the only way to follow up that Justin Bieber campaign was to feature a Kardashian. Jenner’s campaign features Calvin Klein’s #mydenim Denim Series, a limited-edition, logo-driven offering inspired by athletic and urban streetwear. A campaign like this is certainly an achievement for the 19-year-old model, but it’s also quite a win for the brand, which is no doubt relying on Jenner’s social media prowess to help spread the word. Tom Ford has teamed up with George Clooney to work on a screen adaptation of 1993 novel called “Tony and Susan.” Ford has written and will direct the film, titled “Nocturnal Animals,” and Clooney will produce the project with Grant Heslov, his partner at Smokehouse Pictures. This will be the designer’s second venture into film. [Women’s Wear Daily]

If you were a slave to sticker books back in the 90s, consider Anya Hindmarch’s latest launch your next sticker-y vice. Barneys New York hosted a cocktail party to fete the British designer’s “Sticker Shop,” a collection of high-end leather stickers meant to decorate bags, phone cases or other surfaces. The stickers, done in collaboration with Charlotte Stockdale of Chaos Fashion, are sure to make purse shopping even more fun that it already is. [Women’s Wear Daily]

Women’s Wear Daily reports that Amazon is engaged in “ongoing talks” to buy e-commerce giant Net-a-porter. The site was purchased by Compagnie Financiere Ruchemont in 2010 but it’s possible that the luxury group will monetize the value of Net-a-porter and sell it to a company willing to invest in it long-term. Enter: Amazon, which is looking to make an impression on the fashion world, and might take the purchase of Net-a-porter as an opportunity to do just that. [Women’s Wear Daily]

Karl Lagerfeld tapped Tiffany Cooper to contribute her talents to a fun ready-to-wear accessories collection for Stylebop. The tongue-in-cheek collection captures Lagerfeld and his cat Choupette in doodle-form, offering a clever spin on Lagerfeld’s signature style. [Glam Inbox]
