The Canadian tuxedo look is really taking hold, and the latest to test out the style is Miranda Kerr. While some might say that a good rule of thumb is to make sure your denim pieces are contrasting shades, we have to say that Kerr’s monochrome take totally works. Her luxe accessories prevent the outfit from going too country, and keep it grounded in good-old-NYC style.

Style Scoop: Zac Posen Doesn’t Believe in Banning Trends, Go Bare with Dita von Teese, Lord & Taylor’s Birdcage

Don’t ask Zac Posen which trend he would get rid of. “Banning any trend is like… neutering culture,” the designer said during his Reddit AMA. Oh, and he used his 20s to engulf himself in all sorts of cultures. “Through my twenties, I fully engrossed myself in the glamour lifestyle, traveled the world, ate in some of the best restaurants, and had a quite fabulous life experiences—from being mentored and partners in my early twenties with Puff Daddy (who I’ve always call “Sean”) to dining with royalty to living the American West—planes, trains and automobiles.” [The Cut]

Today Dita von Teese’s signature lingerie collection is launching on Bare Necessities. To celebrate the full range-styles that are available up to 44 band and E cup, Bare Necessities wants to see your take on von Teese’s signature cat eye until July 27 using #DitaCatEye. Be sure to tag @barenecessitiesdotcom. The top 10 cat eyes will be chosen, and posted on the Bare Necessities Facebook page and Instagram. Lord & Taylor has two new concept shows for you to shop this fall: Birdcage and Brand Assembly. “We are looking to really inject newness and fashion relevance,” Liz Rodbell, the department store’s president. “We’re testing new concept in our flagship. It’s a great place to bring new exciting ideas.” Birdcage will house “a highly curated, eclectic assortment with over 1,00 styles” from vendors like Alex Woo jewelry, Tai jewelry, Marie Turnor handbags, Joya candles, and flowers from Flower Girl when it opens in October. When Brand Assembly opens in September, it will showcase up-and-coming advanced contemporary designers “with a rotating mix of approximately 20 creators,” like Sachin & Babi and Priory of Ten. Instead of making a big production of out the fact that their July catalog features disabled models, Nordstorm simply released it without much ado. “We have a long history of incorporating diverse models into our catalogs and marketing,” the retailer’s spokesperson Tara Darrow said. “For us it’s really about wanting to ensure that we’re reflecting the diverse customers and communities we serve.” [Glamour]

News from the capitol! In preparation for the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, the film has launched a fashion magazine from the capitol. Capitol Couture features a living portrait of Johanna Mason, the female victor from the 71st Hunger Games from District 7. The site reads, “Here we see Johanna in a n exquisite Alon Livne creation that ‘juxtaposes the flowing drapery of classic statuary while the super modern and sculptural iridescent white bodice references the branch motif of the Panem Seal.’  With plunging lines and slits as daring and divine as the warrior woman herself, every element of Johanna’s ensemble (including her Alexander Wang shoes and hand-carved marble bangles by Chen Chen and Kai Williams) exudes her fierce strength and enduring pride- a true darling of the Capitol.” Cute.  [Fashion Gone Rouge]

The Second Saint Laurent Biopic Will Put A Spell On You

Saint Laurent might be the “unofficial” Yves Saint Laurent biopic, but we have to say it looks pretty darn good. Saint Laurent’s business partner and lover, Pierre Bergé, only approved of the first film about the designer’s life, dubbed Yves Saint Laurent, but this second upcoming film surely has promise. Aside from the fact that Saint Laurent is in French and we can’t understand a word of it because there are no subtitles, the tension and drama is evident in the trailer that was released Tuesday.

Don’t expect to see the designer’s archives in this one (Bergé only authorized access for Yves Saint Laurent), but do prepare yourself for a star-studded cast and a close-up look at his lifelong battle with substance abuse. Gaspard Ulliel plays Saint Laurent, Lea Seydoux plays muse Loulou de la Falaise, model Aymeline Valade plays model Betty Catroux, Jérémie Renier plays Berge and Louis Garrel plays Jacques de Bascher. We’re not entirely sure we’ll be able to follow this film in its entirety because of the whole French thing, but we did catch a few things from the trailer: the very dramatic statement, “Je t’aime Jacques,” several utterings of the designers name in impeccable French accents, snakes and the song “I Put A Spell On You.” Needless to say, we are intrigued.

The CFDA Inducts 30 New Members

Under Council of Fashion Designers of America president, Diane von Furstenburg, the CFDA’s membership has grown from 271 in 2006 when the organization was founded to presently, 478.

That number has grown in part to the addition of 30 new members who will join the ranks of Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera and Zac Posen. Some pretty big names made the cut, too. Edun’s creative director Danielle Sherman, Maiyet’s Kristy Caylor, model and Lemlem designer Liya Kebede are among the new members who will be celebrated at Kenneth Cole’s home this fall.

Blake Lively’s Site is Live!

Gossip Girl star Blake Lively has been preparing for her new lifestyle brand, Preserve, for years. Little by little, she’s revealed new aspects of the website: her hopes, a launch date, and finally, in Vogue, the name.

Vogue’s August cover girl launched her new venture on Monday—2 days earlier than the original date—with little fanfare. Ryan Reynold’s wife is hoping to use “all the modern-day digital tricks of the trade to shine a light on—to preserve—all those finer, simpler things in American life that are in danger of getting touched-screened into extinction, trampled on by the medium itself,” according to the magazine.

Very interesting, considering that Lively isn’t on social media, and Preserve, though registering accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest plus Instagram, hasn’t posted anything to the sites.

On her site, Lively penned her very first editor’s letter, writing, “I’m more intimidated that I should probably admit. I’m not editor, no artisan, no expert. And certainly no arbiter of what you should buy, wear, or eat.”

She just wants to tell stories. “So here at Preserve there are people, stories, essays, videos and goods which hopefully inspire your home, your style and your tongue,” she continued. “There’s expensive stiff. Inexpensive stuff. And everything in between. But their value, is up to you. We may romanticize it, calling it treasure. What we’re really saying is, we see worth on every level.”

Hopefully, you’ll treasure preserving your time with Lively.

Style Scoop: A Decade of Diane, Bill Cunningham Spills It to Fern Mallis, Kanye West is So GQ

Diane von Furstenberg’s term as the Council of Fashion Designers of America will continue until 2016. “An additional two years will make it a decade of Diane with the time spent on strengthening the board and organizational development,” CFDA CEO Steven Kolb said. In addition to Diane reigning supreme, the Council added 30 new designers! [Women’s Wear Daily]

Fern Mallis tried for two years to get New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham to agree to a Q/A with her at 92Y in New York City. Cunningham politely declined in a handwritten letter only to end up changing his mind over a glass of white wine. “Poor Bill was horrified and so apoplectic in his apology,” Mallis said of the photographer spilling a glass of wine on her saffron chiffon caftanlike frock she wore to the CFDA Awards. “I told him, ‘It’s OK. It’s clear. It will dry. If it had been red wine, I would have killed you.’” The two will have their sitdown on September 3. [Women’s Wear Daily]

Kanye West is on the August cover of GQ magazine and inside the pages of the glossy, the rapper let it slip that he isn’t always so paparazzi-ready. “I hope we don’t see no paparazzi today,” West said during the interview. “Because I’m still getting acquainted with these jogging pants I threw on. Like, ‘That’s not my statement!” The article is full of statements that are gems reminiscent of Ye were knew and loved (pre-Kardashian). [GQ]

For the fifth season in a row, Daria Werbowy is face of Celine’s Fall 2014 campaign—in addition to staring in ads for Mango, Equipment, AG Jeans. The model looks stunning in a long black coat with white buttons, a pair of oversized tweed trousers and a delectable mustard yellow bag. [Fashionista]

Speaking of fashion advertisements, Edie Campbell, her family, and her horse, Dolly, are staring in Lanvin’s fall ad campaign to celebrate the French fashion house’s 125th anniversary. [The Cut]

Lastly, for a fashionable, full-circle moment, DVF is taking over a main entrance and 12 windows at the Galeries Lafayette flagship on Boulevard Haussman from Septemeber 3 to 30 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her infamous wrap dress.
