Style Scoop: Meryl Streep's Girls Get a Fashion Campaign and Fendi Does Haute 'Fourrure'

Meryl Streep has some stylish daughters, don’t you think? Her grown-up girls, Mamie, Louisa, and Grace Gummer, are taking their effortlessly chic, laid-back look to professional places as the faces for the & Other Stories’s Co-Lab collection campaign. The line, which debuts March 5th, includes bags and accessories designed by Clare Vivier. [Huffington Post]

Fur seems to be on the agenda for Fendi’s Paris Haute Couture show on July 8th, according to Karl Lagerfeld’s revealed sketches of the collection. Reinforcing the tradition of animal skins in its couture line is fitting as Fendi has long had a fur atelier department.“It reinforces the tradition, magnifies our savoir faire, and it gives us a chance to experiment, as couture is a platform for experimentation,” Pietro Beccari, Fendi chairman and chief executive officer explained to WWD. “Haute ‘fourrure’ will set a differentiation between Fendi fur and the rest.” [Women's Wear Daily]

Even influencers as grand as Kanye West need a good mentor. For the  Yeezus x Adidas designer, guidance through the fashion world came from the late Central Saint Martins professor, Louise Wilson, whose former students include Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders, and Christopher Kane. During a BBC radio interview this week, West was moved to tears when discussing the role that the fashion design professor played in his life. [Vogue UK]

Looking for a princess-worthy prom dress? Formal wear brand, Ashdon, has partnered with Disney to create a line of gowns inspired by         “Cinderella“. Sue Stemp has unveiled the final result of her latest endeavor. The designer, whose worked at Alexander McQueen and Tocca as well as running her own namesake label, has launched the first fall collection from her new line, St. Roche. Trend to Try: Band Jacket

I am a self-proclaimed jacket addict. I believe that adding a jacket to your outfit can instantly elevate your look. A blazer, a motorcycle jacket, or a denim jacket are all safe bets and should absolutely have a place in your closet.  If you want to step it up and be a real fashion risk-taker, then may I suggest the band jacket?

If you are looking to channel your inner Jimi Hendrix then you’ll definitely want to rock this fashion-forward trend. But how do you actually wear it? I’ve got a few ideas …

Keep it Simple
Let the jacket be the focal point of the outfit by pairing it with a classic white tee, blue jeans, and a pair of pumps. This is a no-fail look and the easiest way to try the trend.

Dress it Up
Mix a rugged band jacket (extra points if its vintage) with something dressier like a maxi skirt or a sexy mini dress.  This unexpected pairing with yield fabulous results.

Get Crazy
Take a page out of Jimi Hendrix’s book and mix your band jacket with some mixed prints styling.  You’ll be super on-trend as well, as 70s style is making a huge comeback.

Style Scoop: Conde Nast Nixes Its Blogger Platform and Lupita Nyong'o's Gown Goes Missing

NowManifest, the Condé Nast-owned blogging platform, is shutting down. Since it’s launch in 2009, and then its Condé Nast acquisition in 2012, NowManifest has been a hot-spot for some of the biggest fashion and style bloggers in the game, including Rumi Neeley of Fashion Toast (pictured above left), Susie Lau of Susie Bubble, Bryan Boy, Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat, Derek Blasberg, and Anna Dello Russo. In more bad news, Lupita Nyongo’o's show-stopping Calvin Klein Oscars gown is gone. Reportedly, the $150,000 custom-made dress, which features 6,000 hand-sewn pearls, was stolen out of the actress’s hotel room on the day after the 2015 Academy Awards. [Harper's Bazaar]

Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci had some real-talk with Details Magazine regarding his role in styling Kim Kardashian over the last couple of years. ”[She was accepted] by nobody,” he explains. “And she’s a sweet girl. And Kanye and me, we did it together. Every designer is dying to dress her now. I didn’t care what people thought about Kim. My Boyfriend's Closet: Trousers

Menswear inspired trousers are our bread and butter.  Why wear lame gabardine tab front trousers, purchased in the same section of Bloomingdales as every other worker-bee in the office, when you could be wearing pants that would make Alexa Chung weak kneed?  Paired with a sweater and button-down for work or a t-shirt and heels when you’re not stuck behind a desk, these trousers are office appropriate but have a natural coolness to them that is neither trendy or obvious.

You’ll understand then when we grab us a pair and wear them until the wrinkles can’t be shaken out with Febreeze and the seams start to give.

Wearables company Withings released a photo series featuring preteen supermodel lookalikes with the intent of solidifying its products as fashion accessories. Lauren Conrad drew inspiration from the Disney Animated Classic to create a Cinderella-inspired collection, available exclusively at Kohl’s. To celebrate the launch of the collection, Conrad hosted an event at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. After getting a lot of heat for making a racially insensitive comment about Zendaya’s Oscars hairstyle, Giuliana Rancic officially apologized for what she said. But that didn’t necessarily undo all the damage she’d already done. Rancic’s Fashion Police co-star, Kelly Osbourne, got dragged into the mix and responded by questioning whether she should leave her post on E!’s popular show. [Page Six]

As London Fashion Week came to a close, one last hoorah rounded out the week. AmEx VIP Member Lounge Presents: A Chat with Jeremy Scott

Amidst the chaos of backstage and the drama of the Fashion Week runways lies an oasis. This glam getaway from the masses that await outside includes personal hairstyling via Drybar, lounging locations thanks to a slew of chic couches, power-up necessities like hydrating drinks and yummy bites, and most spectacular of all, visits from the event’s celebrated designers themselves. What is this oasis we speak of? It’s all presented by American Express!

American Express returned to MADE Fashion Week this season by offering card members access to a select number of fall 2015 runway shows, the backstage perks mentioned above in the American Express VIP Card Member Lounges, and even meet-and-greets with designers, hosted by Micah Jesse. Glam escaped the thrilling yet exhausting backstage area and popped into one ourselves for a reboot after the Jeremy Scott Fall 2015 show. After a dry-shampoo refresh and a snack or two, we caught up with Mr. Scott himself and along with Micah and the American Express Card members.

Q: What was this collection all about?
A: This collection was a jumping off point from last season. I felt like I really expressed myself in a new way last season, so I wanted it to take one element and cary that through. Almost like a sequel, but mostly like a new chapter in the story. The theme was dolls, but not not fresh out of the box dolls, but a doll that’s been loved, played with, is falling apart, but is made new again.
Q: Your shows are so creative. When you get that idea for a show, what’s your process?
A: A little bit of everything, if I need a sketch, I sketch it. If it needs a reference image, like Humpty Dumpty, which was an image I was inspired by for this collection, then I’ll find that. It’s multi format, like a collage. I try and put it all together to explain the silhouette, use images of the dolls to explain the way the clothes hang on them. Anything that can help illustrate the story as I try and bring it to life.
Q: Can you talk a little bit about the choice of music?
A: I’ve been working with Michel Gaubert, who is one of the industry’s best showman maestros. I’ve been doing this for 18 years, and he and I have a shared common bond of knowledge and shorthand of what it takes to put a show together. I was able to explain to him my story and he was able to capture that. I love the track “Lemonade” that he chose. I called the show “Doll Patterns” because of three elements that were important to me: the fact that it was inspired by dollies, that there are lots of patterns in it, and Dolly Parton. Dolly has a famous song called “Coat of Many Colors”, about this coat she made that was actual patchwork. It was made of love because her mom couldn’t afford to buy store-bought items. I did these patchwork leathers and patchwork silks to capture that story which I love.
Q: Whose options do you trust most when you’re creating a collection?
A: Really my closest friends, I think they know me best, and they know my work best. I think it’s important to talk about (the collection), it’s like an exercise in a way, and it’s important to get it out there and see what comes and what sticks. So it’s a very intimate exercise.
Q: Can you speak a little about the creative process for this collection?
A: I really just wanted to take things I felt were diverse, although not as diverse as last season, because (this season) I really wanted to play into the nursery vibe. Wooden blocks for the invitation, all these nursery characters like sweet little lambs and bears, appearing in the prints and just have this kind of rosy, childlike, toddler-like feeling.

Less than three months after Lululemon debuted its first men’s store in SoHo, the retailer will open the doors to its women’s counterpart today. Lady Lululemon resides at 125 Prince Street, right across the street from LululeMEN. The women’s store will have a more feminine feel than the typical Lulu store. Condé Nast staffers are reportedly being encouraged to tweet about and Instagram their new digs—specifically the cafeteria. To generate buzz about the new eatery, Café 1WTC even has its own Instagram account. Style Scoop: Four Brands That Debuted At The Oscars, Jennifer Lawrence Poses For Dior, Tom Ford’s LA Fashion Extravaganza

Four brands used Hollywood’s biggest night of the year as an opportunity to make big fashion statements. Oscar de la Renta’s new creative director, Peter Copping, made his red carpet debut in the form of a black frock worn by Sienna Miller. Cate Blanchett wore a John Galliano for Maison Margiela gown, signaling some change for the fashion house, which has never been seen as a red carpet label. Azzedine Alaia, which has never dressed anyone for the Oscars, dressed Lady Gaga this year and designer Rosetta Getty, who launched her namesake line last year, dressed winner Patricia Arquette. Jennifer Lawrence sat largely out of awards shows this season, but it’s clear she’ll always step out for Dior. The actress appears in the latest campaign for the Be Dior handbag. The ads are slated to break this week in Marie Claire UK, followed by French Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar in early March. A film clip from the campaign will debut on Diormag.com on Thursday. Tom Ford opted to take his runway show to Los Angeles this year, on the eve of Hollywood’s most-anticipated awards show. So, naturally, some of Hollywood’s biggest stars made their way to the front row, which was held Saturday at Milk Studios. Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Adams, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, Elton John, Julianne Moore, and Miley Cyrus attended—just to name a few. Model Karlie Kloss is trading in her Angel wings for backpacks and books. The Victoria’s Secret model will be attending NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, as continuing her education is “something that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time,” as she told Vogue.
