It all began, perhaps, with that captivating moment that she revealed her Alexander McQueen wedding gown. And the obsession with What-Will-Kate-Wear has only grown since. She has her favorite (British) labels, and Jenny Packham is certainly one of them. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the designer works with the Duchess in what is “’always quite a collaboration.’” Therefore, when the public gives Kate such high praise for her choice of dress (most recently, it was the Jenny Packham creation dubbed “The Fern dress”) designers like Packham have reason to celebrate.
While Packham has been designing dresses for over 25 years, there’s no debate that the Duchess has helped to put her on the fashion map. Going forward, Packham and her business/life partner Matthew Anderson have quite a lot to be excited about.
On Thursday, she’ll host her first-ever ready-to-wear trunk show at Neiman Marcus in Los Angeles with a VIP salon scheduled for Wednesday evening. This trip to LA will also bring Packham into contact with editors and stylists. Surely, it’s trips like these and exposure like the kind garnered by a Kate Middleton appearance that will serve as the push Packham needs to build her American market. Of her bridal show on April 18, Packham said, “This is the pinnacle of everything we do, doing the collection, meeting the people we sell to, which gives me amazing feedback.” Hopefully such feedback will lend itself to the company’s expected 30% sales gain for 2014, as well as Duchess of Cambridge look-alikes all over Manhattan.
