For Carine Roitfeld and AmfAR, It’s All About A Runway Dripping in Gold

By  April 22, 2013

Year after year, the Cannes Film Festival proves to be a star-studded, sparkly event. Between the celebrities, the models, and the over-the-top parties, it’s a celebration like no other. In honor of the 20th anniversary of the fundraiser fighting AIDS, this season’s AmfAR is set to be a charity gala the likes of which no one has ever seen before.

Leading the fashionable vibe is none other than Carine Roitfeld. To follow up her fashion show from last year, Roitfeld is working with Naomi Campbell to stage a runway event that will be talked about for years. Inspired by Elizabeth Taylor—who was an international chairman of AmfAR—the show will revolve around gold.

“I picked the gold theme because gold is extraordinary,” Roitfeld said. “Since it is the 20th year of this event, I thought people should walk away with an incredible memory. For me, this is really a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. When you think of her in Cleopatra, you have this very powerful image of gold and beauty.”

Forty models will walk the runway in gold creations from Christian Dior, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Burberry, Roberto Cavalli, Alexander Wang, Pucci, Fendi, Givenchy, Marchesa, Missoni, Michael Kors, Prada, Moncler, Vionnet, Valentino, Versace, Ralph Lauren, Lanvin, Comme des Garçons and Kenneth Cole, accessorized with jewelry from Bulgari, House of Waris, Kimberly McDonald and Hoorsenbuhs.

In addition to hosts, Kenneth Cole, Sharon Stone and Heidi Klum, co-chairs include Janet Jackson, Jessica Chastain, Roberto and Eva Cavalli, Milla Jovovich and Harvey Weinstein. Though being fashionably late is quite the norm, guests have been asked to arrive 30 minutes early, simply to make time for all the festivities that have been planned for the night!

Interestingly, while AmfAR is toasting to it’s 20th anniversary by drawing inspiration from Taylor, Cleopatra—which you’ll remember featured Taylorwill be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year!
