What’s emerald cut, ethically-sourced, roughly seven carats, and set in precious platinum? The future Mrs. George Clooney’s engagement ring.
News broke earlier this week that Hollywood’s boundless bachelor proposed to his girlfriend of less than a year, Lebanese-born lawyer Amal Alamuddin. The pair were first photographed together last October in London, and later, on a date at the White House for an East Wing viewing of the A-lister’s Monuments Men. Page Six mentioned that the pair coyly revealed their soon-to-be-wedded bliss at an April 27 birthday dinner for Cindy Crawford’s husband Rande Gerber. Days later, photos of thee rock have emerged on the cover of People magazine.
Valued at $650,000, sources told People that Clooney presented Alamuddin with the ring on April 22. They add that he “respects that she is not remotely involved in his world,” after a string of failed relationships with emerging and established Tinseltown starlets. “He waited until he was in the right space to meet the right woman,” another source is quoted telling the weekly, alluding to his first marriage to Talia Balsam in 1989. “He has matured and evolved, and he has found someone who can keep up with him.” You know, like Kanye and Kim (couldn’t resist!).
Clooney has already met Alamuddin’s family and gotten their seal of approval. All that’s left is to set a date, which People reports could be as soon as September.
Bling bonus: Leighton Meester, who shall henceforth and (hopefully) forevermore be known as Mrs. Adam Brody, has finally showed off her engagement ring and wedding band. The baubles made their debut at the Of Mice and Men Broadway Press Conference last week alongside Meester’s co-stars James Franco and Chris O’Dowd.
