Kristen Stewart let out a bit of her Joan Jett show over the weekend at the AFI Fest screening of her new film, On the Road. With a midriff baring top, oxblood lip, a little liner, and a sexy ponytail, her look was pure rock star. We got the how-to on her pumped-up pony from her stylist Fekkai’s Adir Abergel, who said he wanted “an androgynous, roughed up ponytail that looked great from every angle.”
To start, he applied Fekkai’s Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel through her dry hair, focusing on the roots. He used his hands to rough up the strands and create as much volume as possible. Next he created a deep side part and backcombed the roots for more height with a few spritzes of Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray for shape and hold. Then he pinned the top section of hair up and used the Coiff Nonchalant Piecing & Forming Wax to pull the rest of the hair into a tight, off-center ponytail, creating a faux-hawk. After the ponytail was created, he raked back the top section of hair using his fingers to pull into the ponytail with enough height on top to give it the desired shape. He then brushed the tail over the shoulder to frame the face and balance the volume before polishing off the looks with a few sprays of the Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray.
