Giambattista Valli is launching a new line in September, to be shown in Milan. The ready-to-wear collection, called Giamba, is, to Valli, “more intellectual, more oneiric” than his couture line. “All my friends call me Giamba, and the moniker reflects the spirit of this new project. It’s another side of the same coin, another collection that runs in parallel with the designer brand, one completing the other,” Valli told WWD. The designer also suggests that the line will have an element of playfulness and a touch of sexiness. Though Giamba reflects a different side of the designer’s personality, he’s going after the same customers—“Valli Girls.” These women have evolved, and “need different looks for different moments of their lives.” Loyal “Valli Girls” include Lauren Santo Domingo, Bianca Brandolini d’Adda, Charlotte Casiraghi, Alice Dellal and Diane Kruger.
Giamba will include two seasonal collections and two pre-collections each year, giving us ample opportunity to stock up on the “fearless, tomboy, own-minded, nomad, fresh and fab,” pieces. Valli’s description makes this new collection sound like just the thing we need to infuse a little bit of fun into our wardrobes. And according to Valli, “having fun is the key to success,” after all.
