The fall season can be rough on your skin—as the weather gets cooler, your skin gets drier. So how can you avoid any unecessary roughness? Update your beauty routine with these three tips.
1. Pare Down Your Products
It can be tempting to load up on products to keep skin healthy as the seasons change, but you actually need only a few. The more chemicals you’re introducing to your skin, the more likely it will become irritated. A gentle cleanser to remove makeup and other impurities, a moisturizer for the daytime with sunscreen, and a nighttime moisturizer are all the daily products you’ll require. Add a weekly exfoliator and you’re all set.
2. Use a Light Touch
During your weekly exfoliation, choose a product that’s gentle, but make sure your touch is gentle too. There’s no need to scrub your face; your skin is too fragile for rough movements. Simply massage the product gently in a circular motion. When applying any product around your eyes, use your pinkie, as it’s less likely to pull at delicate skin.
3. Keep It Cool
Avoid a scalding hot shower, which will dry out your body and face—and even your locks! Wash your face with lukewarm water to open up pores, and rinse products with cool water. After cleansing, pat your skin dry. Rubbing will only irritate your skin and cause redness.
