Mayor Michael Bloomberg himself has proclaimed October 24th Giorgio Armani Day in New York City. The day serves to recognize the long and rich relationship the designer has maintained with the city throughout his career. This news is timed perfectly with the Armani’s “One Night Only” event taking place at Hudson River Park’s SuperPier the same evening. As this is the designer’s first visit to New York since 2009, he created a “Nude” ready-to-wear collection influenced by the couture to mark the occasion. The collection will be available at the Giorgio Armani boutique on Madison Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman.
As for the evening’s festivities, Armani is looking forward to celebrating with the style icons that have remained loyal to the house and to the designer. The specially-built venue will feature an exhibition of sorts, complete with new photography, to showcase the designer’s “Eccentrico” installation of unique clothes and accessories. Following the showcase will be a runway show featuring a retrospective of over 100 looks from his Giorgio Armani Privé collections since 2005. The show will also include looks from “Nude.” Afterwards, food and music from DJ Mark Ronson will consume the venue as Armani celebrates what “a great honor [it is] to receive this recognition, which reaffirms a strong personal and professional bond with New York, a city that has given me and continues giving me so much.”
