H&M’s largest store will call Herald Square in New York home in Fall 2014. The new 63,000-square-foot-space will have four levels and house women’s, men’s, sport, maternity, plus sizes, accessories, cosmetics, children’s, and the Swedish retailer’s latest addition: home.
This is a first for the retailer to sell so many different departments together. H&M already has two stores located in Herald’s Square—one on 34th Street and Broadway and one on 34th Street and Seventh Avenue, and there aren’t plans to close either location. The muliple stores are part of a strategy that will work for the brand that hosteded their first runway show in Paris last February.“There’s a lot of traffic in that area,” Daniel Kulle, president of H&M North America, told Women’s Wear Daily. “As we’ve done before, we’re keeping all the stores open in close proximity to each other.”
Following the Herald Square flagship, H&M plans to open a 42,500-square-foot at 4 Times Square at the end of this year. The two stores are a part of a master plan.“The Herald Square location is a very strong shopping district with both national and international retailers,” Kulle said. “The Times Square location is a very strong international tourist destination with global visibility.”
Welp, there goes our wallet!
