Pool-Party-Makeup

Summer is the season for fun in the sun, which means expect an influx of pool party and backyard barbecue invitations. Now, we get it, pool parties can be a bit daunting. You never know who will be there, and we understand you want to put your best face forward! It’s a good idea to pool-proof your routine, or you may potentially end up with black mascara tears running down your face (the infamous Lauren Conrad scene, anyone?). Even if you don’t plan on swimming, it’s better to be safe than sorry. It’s a pool party—expect to get wet!

Step 1: Base

No matter what, you always want to protect your face. Laying down the right base will help save your skin and give you the right coverage. Always start off with sunscreen. We recommend killing two birds with one stone and opt for a tinted moisturizer or BB cream that contains SPF. Tinted moisturizers and BB creams are more ideal than foundation, because they give you coverage, but are lightweight. They also absorb into your skin better than foundation, which will only slip off once you hit the water. You can add concealer here or there, but only if you really need it. When it comes to pool party makeup, think light and minimalistic.

Step 2: Eyes

Just because you’ll be hitting the water, doesn’t mean you can’t sport a little eye makeup! We’re not saying rock a full on Kim Kardashian smoky eye, but there are ways to enhance your eyes and make them withstand water.

Too add a little color and shine, swipe a light cream eye shadow across your lids. Cream shadows will stick and last longer in the water than regular powder eye shadows. If you want a little more definition, add a dark brown eye shadow to the lash line. The cream shadow will act as a base and help make the shadow stick, whereas using a regular dark eyeliner will only cause smudged raccoon eyes.  Add some waterproof mascara to define your lashes, and you’re done!

Step 3: Lips & Cheeks

For your lips and cheeks, we suggest a 2-in-1 product. A lip and cheek stain is optimal for a pool party look, because stains are made to stay put. Dab a little bit onto your cheeks to give you a healthy flush. Add a small amount to the center of your lips, and blend outwards. Don’t forget to moisturize your lips first! A lip balm with SPF would be the perfect base for your lips.
