Few women leave the house without a lick of makeup on, but they do often find themselves rushing through the application process to get out the door on time. Nothing holds up the process like that missing mascara or misplaced shadow palette. Organizing your makeup is a super-simple way to expedite your morning routine. — Beth Becher, B Organized Now
Make a display out of your makeup. Stand up makeup brushes, eye pencils, and mascara in small mason jars and pretty vases. Be creative! You can find these around your house, at the flea market, or even at secondhand stores. You can also use pretty jars for Q-tips, cotton balls, and other makeup-related goodies.
Organize within your cabinets. Group like items and contain them. Think in categories: medicine, lotions, eyes (contact lenses and solution), mouth (toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash). Keep all items properly sorted by using acrylic cabinet organizers.
Use drawer dividers. These will keep all of your makeup neat and tidy. Make sure to get dividers with nonslip rubber so items stay in place. Silverware dividers work well because they come with compartments that are the perfect sizes for makeup. To know what you have in your inventory, try not to stack your goods.
Keep extras of all your essentials on hand. Organize these in clear plastic bins under the sink. This way, if you run out of your favorite mascara, you don’t have to run to the store. There is a limit to this—keep only a few extras to prevent your cabinets from getting cluttered. Saving mini shampoos and soaps from hotels in clear bins also helps when you have a houseguest.
Make things portable. If you’re traveling or constantly on the go, you need to have a way to organize the makeup that’s floating around in your purse. Invest in adorable pouches in different sizes, and use each pouch for a different category. Small pouches work for lipsticks, and bigger pouches are ideal for brushes, blushes, and bronzers.
Enjoy how easy it is to use and maintain your newly organized makeup collection. Now get yourself to work, girl!
