H&M Proves Fashion is Art

Forever 21, we see your Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat collections… and raise you a museum-inspired store!

On the heels of Forever 21′s artist collaboration, Swedish retailer H&M announced it will open a new flagship with some help from famous contemporary artist Jeff Koons. The 57,000 sq foot Fifth Avenue store will showcase Koon’s work, including one of his most iconic sculptures: Ballon Dog. To celebrate the collaboration, the brand will also sell a limited-edition leather bag featuring the recognizable piece of art.

“We are proud to celebrate the unveiling of our largest flagship in the US on Fifth Avenue, with the announcement of our sponsorship of the Whitney Museum of American Art and Jeff Koons, who has designed our limited edition Balloon Dog leather handbag. It is such an honor to have the vision of this prolific and world renowned artist on display and as the storefront facade of the new H&M Fifth Avenue,” said Daniel Kulle, U.S. President of the brand.

“The partnership with H&M was really exciting for me and the chance to showcase one of my most popular works to a new generation of people was inspiring. H&M delivers great fashion season after season and it’s nice to see my work at their new store,” says Jeff Koons.

The bag will be available in select stores, hm.com and the Whitney Museum starting July 17.
