In 2008, Jessica Alba came up with the idea for Honest, she just didn’t know it yet. She wanted a solution to a problem presented in a book, Healthy Child Healthy World, which she read when she was 7 months pregnant with her first daughter, Honor. The book opened Alba’s eyes to all of the toxins in everyday household items. After she ‘hounded’ the author of the book, Christopher Gavigan, the duo joined forces in 2012 to found an ec0-friendly company that started as a baby-care and household-cleaning resource. Now, the 31-year-old actress has a growing empire on her hands with her newest creation, The Honest Life. The book breaks down the idea of ‘honest’ — from babies and home to style and beauty as well.
Glam.com chatted with Alba to find out 3 easy ways we can have honest style on a budget:
1. Go Vintage
“Make the tailor your best friend,” she told us.
2. Swap with Girlfriends
“If there is something that your girlfriend wore to death last season that’s in good condition, swap that with something you’ve worn to death,” Alba suggested.
3. Invest in Classic Pieces
“Buying less trendy things will give you room to grow with the pieces,” she said.
So there you have it, three ways to keep your style honest. Oh, and since we know you’re wondering what her favorite eco-friendly brands are when it comes to clothes, we just had to ask. Edun and Lululemon are two she simply can’t resist. When we questioned her about what keeps her honest not only with her style but in her life, she gave the most honest answer of all: “My kids. Kids keep you really honest.”
