John Galliano won’t take a permanent role with Oscar de la Renta after all.
Galliano’s Fall 2013 collection – created during a temporary studio residency for de la Renta – was lauded a success but it appears that’s where the partnership will end. Page Six is reporting that the two parties were unable to reach a financial agreement.
“It is categorically not happening,” a said told the New York paper. “Oscar de la Renta is still looking for a new creative director.”
“The team at Oscar were not willing to put up the money to pay for the design team that John needed, such as the cutters and other specialist support staff for his atelier,” another source shared. “Money was the biggest factor which held up the negotiations, and they couldn’t reach an agreement, although John and Oscar remain very good friends. John is grateful that Oscar gave him a second chance.”
John’s second chance came after he was fired from his post at Christian Dior for making anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris café. His collection at de la Renta was one of the many steps on his road to redemption.
We’re anxious to see what’s next both designers.
