According to Lucky, senior BFA candidates received information over the weekend on an upcoming master class called “SHOW ME EMOTION!” It is described as a 3-day workshop where students will provoke “the power of emotion in context of fashion practice and exploration of intuitive, perceptive manners of investigational making” and will include a day of critique from the designer and Dean of the School of Fashion Simon Collins.
The collaboration between the school and the fashion creative already had a strong tie through Collins, who, according to Fashionista, “loves John Galliano” and initially hinted that he would be welcome to teach there though the school declined to comment at that time. Dis published the full email that was sent out to students regarding the class that noted participants can expect to get up close and personal with the designer throughout the creative process, “including the intense pressure of sustainable a role at the very top of the design world.”
The rumors of Galliano’s move towards academics first emerged on the heels of Galliano’s styling tenure for Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2013 collection that was met with critical acclaim. Prior to that, the disgraced designer worked to re-establish his sobriety and image following his 2011 scandal that resulted in his dismissal from Dior.
Regardless of the differing opinions of the scholarly selection, it will no doubt be a big draw for students in the upcoming semester!
