Step aside, Amazon. Make way, Netflix. Hulu nabbed heavy hitter Judd Apatow to boost its original programming arsenal.
The streaming service, which already boasts original series like The Awesomes, Misfits, and The Only Way is Essex, has reportedly tapped Apatow to write, produce, direct, and shoot a new comedy, tentatively titled Love. According to Vulture, the show’s pilot has already been written with Gillian Jacobs pegged to take on the lead, presumably as one-half of a “very messed-up couple.” The love and (hopefully) happiness treatment is familiar territory for Apatow who executive produces the same Girls that Jacobs will have a recurring role on for season four.
The development comes after Hulu ended efforts to revive Jacobs’ other TV obligation, Community, which was cancelled by NBC after five seasons. Considering Jacobs’ contract with Community officially ends on June 30, this bit of Love seems like a good way to fill her plate.
