Kendall and Kylie Jenner Are Stepping Out!

At just 16 and 14 years old, Kendall and Kylie Jenner are putting their stamp on entertainment beyond the Kardashian name. The young socialites are making independent strides as west coast contributors for Seventeen magazine, budding science fiction authors, and fashion models (with Kendall nabbing a coveted contract with Wilhelmina). Taking a cue from big sisters Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe, and mom Kris, the two are set to build a namesake empire. The two new faces of Gillette Venus chatted us up about their current ventures, that Oprah interview, and what it’s like being part of one of the most buzzed about families in entertainment history.

The older Kardashian clan has led your family into the spotlight, and now, you two are stepping out on your own. How does it feel to be part of one of the world’s most famous families and what are your plans to make a name for yourselves outside of it?
We are very proud of our big sisters and brothers, we love being part of such a large family. There is always someone to ask advice from or to hang out with. We’re pretty lucky they all live so close too! We are just doing what makes us happy: modeling, writing, and designing. We’ve seen that success will come from following your passions — it worked for our siblings so that’s what we are doing to!

It’s interesting that you two are surrounded by fashion, entertainment, and television, and are actually writing a book at such a young age. How’d you two decide on it?
Writing a book has always been an interest for us, and we love sci-fi! We are really excited to share the story with everyone.

Why science fiction?
Because there are no rules! You can make up your own world; we can be creative as we want to be.

You recently had Oprah Winfrey — one of the biggest media moguls ever — take a tour of your closets. How was it meeting her and sharing some of your personal style?
Amazing! Oprah is so cool! She made us feel really relaxed, just like we were talking to a friend.

What are your wardrobe must-haves, and what’s one thing you two would never, ever wear?
Our basics are jean shorts, tank tops, cute collared shirts, cute bold colored blazers and boots. We would never wear day-glo leggings!

What style and beauty tips do you take from your big sisters Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe?
Our sisters are beauty and style inspirations to us, so we turn to them all the time for tips. They taught us to wash our face before bed every night and to start using anti-wrinkle creams as early as possible. They were especially helpful when we first started shaving and showing us the best tools to use – they taught us that shaving with shave gel is a must! We’re also constantly trying to steal outfits and accessories out of each other’s closets!

You girls recently joined Gillette Venus to do a series of webisodes with beauty and fashion tips. A big part of the campaign is encouraging self-esteem and feeling good in your own skin. What keeps you girls confident, especially with a lot of your lives unfolding in the public eye?
We’ve found that the best way to stay confident is to try not to be too concerned about what others think. What matters most is how you feel and to surround yourselves with people that will love and support you for who you are!
