Thanks to a fragrance obsessed out-of-town friend, I recently discovered Le Labo, an incredible craft-based fragrance lab in San Francisco (other locations include New York, LA, and Tokyo). Le Labo (French for “the lab”) believes the luxury of fragrance lies in craftsmanship. Because their bottles (and candles) aren’t cheap, the talented staff (who are essentially fragrance chemists) recommend you take your scents for a test drive before committing. I bought samples of a few different Le Labo scents, and after wearing each for a few weeks, decided Santal 33 was without a doubt the scent for me. Santal 33 is a unisex scent that’s a mix of sexy and woodsy, and it never fails to get complements no matter where I am. After you’ve picked your fragrance, the staff mixes your perfume right then and there (allow at least 45 minutes for your visit to Le Labo to get the full experience) and tops it off with a custom label.-Cara Chronis
