Live From the American Express Skybox: Linda Fargo & Amanda Ross Think Fashion Has Become as Big as Sports

By  February 18, 2013

Clearly we’re biased in that we think, especially with all of the Fall 2013 collections that this New York Fashion Week has presented us, that fashion is a pretty big deal. But it was nice to hear those sentiments echoed in the American Express Skybox by Linda Fargo, senior vice president of the fashion office and store presentation at Bergdorf Goodman and Amanda Ross, Departures‘ first ever fashion director.

“Social media has invented a whole new world. A medium to speak and connect with the customer,” said Ross. “One of the things that has changed about fashion in a very big, big way about fashion, as a world, is how many people are now involved or care. I’m not going to say that they are working for it, but they care. It’s become as big as the art world, or as big of sports,” Linda told the cardholders after explaining how many platforms Bergdorf Goodman is on. “Everyone is kind of tuned-in to it.”

“As much as a puts another task on all of our jobs now, but you know what, it’s all good for the business. The more people that care it and care about how they look, it just makes the whole thing more exciting,” said Fargo, perfectly summing up the conversation.

Most definitely! Raise your hand if you think reality TV had hand in making more people care about fashion.
