With her passion and drive, it’s impossible not to immediately feel extraordinarily motivated when listening to Donna Karan speak about fashion and her missions. During an intimate interview with Lottie Oakley in the American Express Skybox during Fashion Week, Karan opened up about many things, from the best advice she’s ever received (Be here now) to the most positive aspect of Twitter while launching her newest inituative.
In partnership with American Express and her organization Urban Zen, Karan designed limited edition bracelets which were handmade by artisans in Haiti. With two simple Tweets, those looking to support the cause can add decoration to their arm parties while feeling good about their philanthropic efforts. Karan opted to launch this new effort because of her relationship with the social media forum – finding it allowed for not only conversation, but also the real time culmination of hundreds of people towards one topic or cause. “That’s the beauty of Twitter,’ she said, “creating a community of consciousness and change. The people that are going to create the change are each and every one of us.”
While many worry about the ROI (return on investment) of all of those hundreds of thousands of Tweets sent every day, Karan and American Express are actively showing how two 140 character updates are changing the world.
Karan’s Urban Zen bracelet is available through Twitter by for $80 plus tax until March 3, 2013. Tweet using #BuyUrbanZenBracelet.
