Party Report: Chrissy Teigen Toasts to A Thing of Beauty

By  July 23, 2014

THE PARTY: Launch of Stella Artois’ “The Butcher, the Baker, the Belgian Beer Maker”

THE PLACE: Stone Street, NYC

THE DEETS: There’s something special about summer nights in New York City. Around every corner, down every block, opportunity for an exclusive moment in an overwhelming city presents itself in distinctive ways. Maybe it’s an impromptu picnic for friends in a garden, or a couple dancing in the middle of an empty street.

Stella Artois took advantage of that very emotion on Monday night in the Financial District by taking over Stone Street with an outdoor dinner party to celebrate their new show, “The Butcher, the Baker, the Belgian Beer Maker.” Guests of honor included the three hosts, Chrissy Teigen, Aliya LeeKong and Cara Nicoletti, as well as Rosario Dawson and Natalie Joos.

Following cocktail hour, guests sat down to a communal table dominating the middle of Stone Street and tucked into a three course meal: heirloom tomato galette, dry aged ribeye with steak frites, and Belgian apple pastry. With each section of dinner came a description of the offering from the chef and instruction on how to pair Stella Artois’ selection. As the summer sun slowly faded away, a candle was passed down the table in order to light the votives accenting our tablescape, cementing the communal dinner feeling of the evening.

#FlywithAmelia: Modern Day Amelia Takes Us Around The World

By  July 21, 2014

While we may not have been in the cockpit, thanks to the modern day Amelia Rose Earhart, we were still able to experience her flight around the world as she live-streamed it. On June 26, Earhart with co-pilot Shane Jordan embarked on a 17-day journey to symbolically recreate Amelia Mary Earhart’s flight in 1937.

Earhart is the youngest woman to fly across the world in a single engine plane and with Target as the exclusive electronics partner to The Amelia Project, she is also the first to fully live-stream the social media-integrated flight. “Social media is how we communicate emotions, experiences, and major life events,” Earhart said. Using her iPad Mini and iPhone 5S, Earhart was able to share her experience and connect to followers using the hashtag #FlyWithAmelia. “It was only natural that we use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to show the beauty, excitement and wonder of the flight around the world.”

The devices allowed Earhart to connect with followers every step of the way by updating their location, sharing pictures, feelings, attitudes, and facts about Amelia Earhart and receive encouragement from followers. In addition to interacting via social media and documenting her experience, Earhart used the electronics for collecting data, engine information, and navigation and even to keep fit with a Fitbit Flex during her 108.6-hour journey.

Of their 17 stops, Earhart’s favorite was in Tanzania at the Kilimanjaro Airport where she stayed in an African hut at the base of the mountain and ate chicken curry, rice, and pumpkin soup. Flying over 28,000 miles of land and water, there was one view that stood out to Earhart. “Howland Island was my favorite location to overfly. I felt like Amelia Mary Earhart was there in spirit with us as we flew over the island where she intended to land,” Earhart said, tweeting a bird’s eye view photo while flying over the island.

Talk about the journey of a lifetime!

Instagram Diary: Montauk-ing with Sweaty Betty

By  July 21, 2014

sweaty betty

There is nothing I love more than the opportunity to escape the city for a little getaway. Make that a fitness getaway, and I’m beyond excited. Sweaty Betty (a well made, not to mention, fashion-forward fitness apparel brand) out of the UK recently opened a store in SoHo, and I’ve been sniffing around the brand’s wares ever since. Founder Tamara Hill-Norton invited me and a few other editors to spend three days at Ruschmeyers in Montauk, investing in fitness and wellness with yoga, SUP, and a visit to Montauk Juice Factory, all while wearing enviable pieces from Sweaty Betty. Perfection, right?

Jenny Packham Lights Up Real Luxury with Crafty Candles

By  July 21, 2014

Jenny Packham wants to light up your home, and it’s not through your wardrobe!

Following int he footsteps of Jason Wu and Mary Katrantzou, the British designer has linked up with luxury beauty brand Neom Organics on a pair of scented candles that tap into Packham’s balance of sweet and sultry. The candles will be available at both eponymous sites starting in September for $137 for a 50-hour burn time and a whopping $505 for 150-hour burn time. “We chose to collaborate with Jenny Packham not just because she designs the most inspiringly beautiful dresses in the world, but because of the way the dresses make you feel,” said Nicola Elliott, co-founder of Neom Organics. “A precious moment of utter luxury, this is the synergy of Jenny Packham and Neom.”

The first candle, called Real Luxury, taps into our inner silver screen femme fatale with seductive notes of lavender, jasmine, and Brazilian rosewood essential oils. The second, Happiness, takes a lighter turn with a vibrant blend of white neroli, mimosa flowers, and lemon essential oils. Even the packaging nails Packham’s preference for the glitzy side of glamour thanks to bold 18-carat gold prints on each. “I’m a huge believer that scent is linked to mood, and I think we all associate certain scents with certain memories,” Packham said. “Each scent befits a mood and a moment. I love both, as I think many women would.”

We can already see our selves spinning through our scent-filled spaces in one of Packham’s pretty dresses!

Luxury Candles to Set the Mood

By  July 16, 2014

The time is right for relaxation and romance. Turn off that main switch and light a candle, why don’t you? What’s that smell? Is that … cucumber melon? If the idea of making your home smell like a popular body spray for teens sounds like a winner, read no further. If you’re looking to adorn your home with luxurious fragrance, read on.

Scented candles no longer only come in ginormous jars that smell like super sweet food items (although there is a time and a place for such a thing). For a grown up, sensual candle experience, consider these luxurious options.

Moroccan Oil hand-poured candle – The signature hair and body oil smells divine on its own, but when this candle is burned in your home, the fragrance takes on a warm and sensual tone that will fill your home.

Diptyque - This perfumerie has been producing exquisite Parisian fragrances for home and body since 1961, and their reputation for high quality and uniquely beautiful scents makes them a celebrity favorite.

Voluspa - Voluspa candles make for exquisite and special gifts, because they’re not only decadently fragranced, they are beautifully packaged decorative items. With sumptuous scents like “Crisp Champagne” and “Tuberosa di Notte,” you can’t go wrong.

Henri Bendel - Henri Bendel is a purveyor of many chic must-have things, but the candles are amongst the best. With a variety of fragrances from classic to quirky, you could make your bathroom smell like Linen while your kitchen smells like Tomato Vine (for example).

NARS - That’s right, the makeup brand we all adore also makes sumptuously scented candles in beautiful glass containers, that come in 5 unique fragrances intended to stimulate the senses.

Bond No9 - Beloved NYC perfumerie Bond No9 makes exquisite, distinctive, memorable fragrances for your body and your home, which come packaged in collectors-worthy containers.

Capri Blue - Capri Blue candles come packaged in gorgeous, covetable found glass and mercury glass bowls that will look glorious on your mantle or dresser, and come in scents like Volcano, Rain and Aloha Orchid.

Jonathan Adler - Is there anything Jonathan Adler can’t do? The designer and tastemaker has a finger in every pie, and his candles are to die for. They come in bold bright candle vessels, or basic white, or super fun and quirky perfect-for-housewarming containers, like Peace, Hashish or Muse d’Or.

Go Inside Ford's Further With Ford Trend Conference

By  July 14, 2014

What happens when a car company invites a fashion girl to Detroit? She packs her Glam pink notebook, her metallic J.Crew wedges and gets ready to buckle down to learn about key trends that will impact the future of technology, design, sustainability and transportation at the fourth annual Go Further with Ford trend conference. She Instagrams Kenneth Cole speaking one the opening panel, gets a first look at the new Ford Edge, and is diagnosed by a lipsologist.

At one point during the conference, the automotive brand took the group of journalists, editors, bloggers and car enthusiasts on a tour of Ford’s Dearborn Truck plant. My first car was a Ford Taurus–my parents bought it in 1994 when it was the best-selling in its class at the time, kicking off my early Ford loyalty that was cemented after a trip to Dearborn plant. Let’s take a look, shall we?
