When Marc Jacobs took his final bow for Louis Vuitton after 16 years, he placed a letter on each seat, written to the women who inspired the American designer—Emanuelle Alt, Jane Birkin, Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Coco Chanel, Cher, Grace Coddington, and Sofia Coppola, before signing off, ‘to the showgirl in all of us.’

Now, Louis Vuitton is tapping the women who inspired Jacobs for the ad campaign for his final collection before handing the French fashion house over to Nicolas Ghesquiere. Catherine Deneuve, Sofia Coppola, Gisele Bündchen, Fan Bingbing, Caroline de Maigret and Edie Campbell posed for Steven Meisel with an expression almost as enigmatic as Mona Lisa, Women’s Wear Daily is reporting.

The campaign will break in the February glossies printed in six-page units that will resemble a portrait gallery.

“It was a very emotional shoot, and I find this shows in the images,” Frédéric Winckler, Vuitton’s communications and events director told WWD. “It’s not a melancholic campaign. It’s really celebrating the women who inspire Marc.”

What a nice tribute to the designer!
