Madonna’s Costumes On Display at Macy’s for One Night Only!

By  April 22, 2013

Madonna is pulling some of the most iconic costumes from her closet for a one night only engagement at Macy’s.

Her Madge-sty herself handpicked the pieces like the Jean Paul Gaultier corsets from her 1990 “Blonde Ambition” tour as well as the infamous wedding dress she sported at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards as part of the two-hour engagement in the Material Girl shop at Macy’s Century City in Los Angeles this Thursday.

The tightly edited exhibit will feature pieces that span from her “Borderline” era with a neon green stretch skirt created by Vivienne Westwood and Keith Haring, through hit video styles such as the black and gold bustier from “Open Your Heart,” all the way up to her 2004 “Re-Invention” tour ensemble that paired a Christian Lacroix purple beaded corset with a Fantasie of England bra and black spandex boy shorts from Capezio.

The pop legend had a helping hand from her longtime stylist and costume designer, Arianne Phillips, who noted the style significance of the “Open Your Heart” get-up to the Mother of Reinvention. “The theatrical nature of this costume shows the beginning of Madonna’s love for corsetry, taking an undergarment normally hidden, reinventing it with embellishments and exposing it,” she explained to Women’s Wear Daily.

This marks the first time that outfits pulled from Madonna’s own archives have comprised an exhibit dedicated solely to her costume history as the pop star has previously lent pieces out for previous shows that included many pieces owned by collectors, including the Gaultier exhibit, “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk” that has traveled the world over the last two years. “The pop-up exhibit at Macy’s perfectly exemplifies the inspiration and spirit of the Material Girl line and will give my fans a great opportunity to see the evolution of my style over the years,” said Madonna.

Mark your calendars, Madonna maniacs, and get there early as this will be a sight no one will want to miss!
