THE FARE: A four course dinner by Chef Carmellini featuring Chilled Organic Carrot Soup with Paprika, Local Black Bass with Long Island Shellfish, Rotisserie Lamb with Harissa and Apricot, and MAGNUM Double Caramel with Champagne Mango, Pineapple, Coconut Cream, Basil.
THE DEETS: Food and fashion came together in the most glamorous way when CFDA member Christian Siriano and James Beard Award-winning chef Andrew Carmellini collaborated to create ”America’s Most Fashionable Dessert” centered on the beloved MAGNUM ice cream bar. MAGNUM, which has previously partnered with design icons like Karl Lagerfeld and Zac Posen, has come to be known as fashion’s favorite accessory. In Siriano’s case, this certainly was not an exception.
In the intimate and dimly lit Cave du Vin Private Room of Andrew Carmellini’s restaurant, Lafayette, guests mingled over cocktails and canapés. Later, they took their seats at tables decorated with beautiful orchid centerpieces and dining napkins designed by Siriano himself. The highlight of the indulgent four-course meal was certainly the dessert, which was introduced by the designer and the chef before being served. “America’s Most Fashionable Dessert” consisted of a MAGNUM double caramel ice cream bar, served with tropical flavors like coconut, lime, and pickled pineapples and topped with edible orchids to showcase the Pantone color of the year: Radiant Orchid.
After dinner, Siriano and Carmellini toured the room, stopping by each table to talk to guests. They spoke briefly on the process of the inspiration of the tropical flavors and how they reflected Siriano’s collection inspired by his trip to Mexico. As the event came to a close, guests were left still dreaming of the island flavors from “America’s Most Fashionable Dessert.”
