Extravagant nail art may be on its way out, but mani mavens aren’t giving up the fight as they find new ways to transform their tips and toes with the help of top coats.

OPI kicked off the trend with its new line of tinted topcoats that feature sheer shades of blue, pink, yellow, and purple. The Sheer Tints by OPI, which will hit shelves in March, can be worn by itself, over a base, or another tone to easily customize a color. Co-Founder and Executive VP Suzi Weiss-Fischman even suggested trying out a few nail art techniques. “Make a statement by creating an ombre design that is on-trend, then add several coats to create dimension,” she suggested.

While glitters are great to add some sparkle to the holidays, Jin Soon Choi is adding a new spin. We got a peek at her Polka White Nail Topping as it mimicked dandelion fluff on the tips of Tibi’s Fall 2014 models, but there’s also one in black add a dash of contrast to your digits. Choi suggested rocking the dots over bare or nude-hued nails to capture the floating nail art trend that popped up during fashion week as well. “It’s subtler,” she explained.

It looks like we’ll be able to multiply our polish collections this season with just a handful of new additions.
