Following the success of The Face and the boom of nail art over the past year, Nailed It (produced by Matador) will pit the country’s top nail artists against each other through challenges meant to test their skills and creativity with over-the-top designs — all to win a large cash prize.
The show idea was inevitable as the industry boasted a record of $768 million in 2012, a large chunk boosted by the popular Instagram hashtag. Plus, the network has tapped beauty trends in the past, including extravagant extensions used in hair shows like Hair Battle Spectacular.
“Nail art is in the cultural zeitgeist of Oxygen’s viewers as young, modern women are looking at new ways to express themselves,” Cori Abraham, Senior Vice President of Development and International at Oxygen Media told Variety. “Nailed It! will tap into this new trend for the first time to give emerging artists the chance to compete for nail supremacy, and to create a few new trends of their own.”
