Marilyn Monroe’s iconic beauty has kept her legend alive 50 years after her untimely death, and it’s her love of beauty that’s reviving her once again.
Elle UK reports the blonde bombshell is the newest face of Chanel No. 5 – her favorite bedtime companion. The late actress follows the controversial (and admittedly awkward) choice of Brad Pitt, who was announced last year, with her TV and print campaign slated for unveiling later this season. But it’s not the only campaign she was a part of this year; she fronted a fashion collaboration with Macy’s and Sexy Hair’s latest ads.
Her relationship with the scent was cemented during her first cover of Life magazine in 1952. When asked what she wore to bed, she simply shared the name of the classic scent, sending a wave of fragrance fanatics to snap up a bottle.
A recording of the infamous interview was uncovered last year, showing a sweeter side of the sultry screen siren. “You know, they ask me questions. Just an example: ‘What do you wear to bed? A pyjama top? The bottoms of the pyjamas? A nightgown?’” she explained. “So I said, ‘Chanel N°5,’ because it’s the truth… And yet, I don’t want to say ‘nude.’ But it’s the truth!”
With her signature blend of innocence, glamour, and sex appeal, as well as her legacy with the scent, our only question is, why wasn’t she chosen sooner?
