That’s So Fetch: ‘Mean Girls’ Turns Ten!

On Wednesdays, we wear pink. Quite fitting for today, the tenth anniversary of Mean Girls’s theatrical release.

Exactly a decade ago, Tina Fey turned inspiration from Rosalind Wiseman’s Queen Bees and Wannabees into a comical account of 16-year-old Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan), whose rise in social capital at North Shore High School was due, in large part, to Regina George (Rachel McAdams), and her Plastics. The film “hit a nerve about girl politics, but in a nonconfrontational way,” McAdams told E! Online, offering a novel account of one’s ascent to the top of the high school food chain with enough laughs to lighten what could have been dark subject matter (see: Cruel Intentions or Heathers). More than $129 million later, the cult classic has been celebrated with a capsule jewelry collection and rumors of a Broadway musical adaptation—evidence of a timeless Mean Girls charm.

So, in honor of the film that answered whether butter was a carb and championed feminism in the form of not dating your friend’s ex, here are 20 GIFs that would make Plastics new, and old, proud.
